Right after the Sprague creek fire started. We apparently upset some golden eagles on the ridge, and one dove towards us on a ridge, flashing its colors at us. Super cool. With Sean, X and Hannah

A perfect fall day. The ford was easy, though poles and Chacos and crocs made it easier. The dog hair larch in the 2003 burn were solidly golden. Afternoon temps in the mid sixties. Hiked with Don and Colleen Scharfe, which is always a good time.

not so lone...
Hot, sunny August day. Enjoyed a lot of aspects of the hike to the lookout - fording the Middle Fork and Nyack Creek, hiking through an incredible burned forest. We chatted with the lookout ranger's dad who was visiting from Wisconsin - probably one of the few times Loneman Lookout housed two people all summer!!!
Climbed Loneman with Kelly late in the season. The crossing of the Middle Fork was fun, but the real adventure was Nyack Creek. It's nice that this region is so isolated that you can get away with naked river crossing while carrying all your clothes and supplies over your head! There were countless downed trees on the trail, so we did a lot of chucking. The only bummmer about this day was that there was so much smoke from wildfires that we almost couldn't spot another mountain. At least we could see Harrison Lake!

Lovely hike with Babbylonians, two kids from Whitefish, a broad from East Glacier, Glacier County Honey Company's seasonal help, and my mom. Absurdly hot, especially for September. River crossings were gravy but I'd recommend long pants as the brush is really growing up there post-fire....but not when it is 92 degrees. Views were excellent, especially for us East Siders. 4000 ft is still 4000 ft, so don't underestimate the trail.

Trail Clearing 2005
Climbed Loneman a couple times but the best was summer of 2005 when I was on the Middle Fork trail crew (MFTC). We bucked the trail of downfall and then spent our lunchtime spotting peaks using the map wheel in the fire lookout.

Loneman Lookout
Climbed with my buddy Kevin. Cold day, it snowed on us non-stop. Made fording the rivers that much more fun. Only disappointment was we only had views to the south west. Everything in the park was obscured by a snow storm.

Loneman and Elk
Climbed (but really is just a hike) and heard elk bugling in a basin below the final summit ridge. When we finally did see him he was a large 6 point bull with about 5 cows. Climbed with Vantana and SBurry.
