Looking West into the Upper Yellowstone Basin

This is a great shot, but it's mislabeled. Painter Basin is actually east (that is, behind) the camera. You're looking west across the upper Yellowstone Creek basin. Visible are Wilson Peak, Red Castle, Mt. Powell and in the background Tokewanna and Lovenia. Lovely country. The photo is taken close to, if not from, the summit of King's Peak. To the right (but not visible) the Highline Trail winds down to the basin floor a steep half-mile. As an aside, I dislocated a knee very near the bottom of the trail here on a moderately steep snow bank in late July, 1999. On a misstep my impromptu walking stick went one direction, I another, and my left leg yet a third direction. Ouch. I was assisted by a very kind Outward Bound party camped near the bottom of the pass and was able to hobble that evening over to Upper Yellowstone Creek (visible in the photo extreme left, lower center near the few trees).
