March 27, 2004. Although bad...

March 27, 2004. Although bad weather prevented our SP crew from getting up the mountain, there was nothing stopping us from going under the mountain! Ape Cave National Volcanic Monument on St. Helen’s was well worth checking out. Lava flow from an eruption 1900 years ago created tunnels underground that go for two and a half miles. Once inside it is completely pitch black. We had great fun when we all turned our headlamps out and tried to navigate inside the tunnel.
