South Ridge from saddle between Matahpi and GTTS
This was a thoroughly enjoyable 1000 foot ascent from the saddle between Matahpi and GTTS Mountains, done during GMS Mountaineering Week with Aaron and Ellen, and a very nice group of GMS folks. The view of Sexton Glacier from the summit is quite memorable—it's quite a bit larger than the view from the Sun Road makes it appear, and from Matahpi you only see the top half! Anyway, a very nice outing, quickly done—and it's a good thing because it was shortly after returning to the saddle and traversing GTTS that blister problems hit in a major way. Ouch! But made both summits, and despite my feet a great day!

In 2003 I attepted it with 2 siblings and my father, we were forced to turn back when the wind got so strong we were nearly blown off the mountain. This past time I climbed with my father, and 2 friends who are much more experienced climbers. It's a fun climb but extremely hard on the joints.
Route Climbed: South Slopes Date Climbed: 23 August 2002
Pleasant link-up with Going-to-the-Sun Mountain. If you only have half of a day, Matahpi alone may be a better bet than GTTS. The views are better IMO, though the climbing is less demanding.
