"Got tight last night on absinthe and did knife tricks. Great success shooting the knife into the piano. The woodworms are so bad and eat hell out of all furniture that you can always claim the woodworms did it."

North Ridge TrailNice easy half day hike. So windy at some points along the ridge I could barely stand up.

SW ridge/ and NE ridgeI first climbed McHugh with a friend of mine Michae Westbrook via the SW ridge from McHugh Creek trailhead. It is a great route to go up as you get the full effect.
Last summer, Ben Anderson-Agimuk and I ran up from McHugh Creek up to the divide between Rabbit Lake and McHugh Lake. Then followed the NE ridge up and over the summit and down the SW ridge to Mile 1 of the McHugh Creek Trail. Awesome trail run! McHugh Peak's ridges just beg to be run.

A few timesI use the first hump on the north ridge for a short evening exercise route, but have probably been to the real summit only a dozen times spread over a decade and a half. I used the northwest ridge (which was then accessible) for a winter ascent on Jan. 2, 2012. I explored the east ridge and north flanks in 2017-18.

First climbed it in the 1980s via theI first climbed McHugh Peak via the east ridge from Rabbit Lake in the 1980s with Doug Hamilton. I returned on September 16, 2000, with Doug Hamilton and climbed the standard route from Honey Bear. On April 26, 2003, I climbed McHugh Peak from the McHugh Creek trailhead with Annette Iverson. On August 16, 2008, I climbed McHugh Peak during an orienteering race that started in the Potter Valley subdivision. On May 24, 2012, I climbed it from Honey Bear Lane with my nephew and niece, Timothy Gruhn and Hannah Gruhn.
