Melinda ...While I was alone and enjoying my hike today, I was wondering if you have ever been to Bear Lake. I'm talking about the actual lake. When I was a kid growing up in northern Utah, I was in the Boy Scouts. We always went to the East Fork of the Bear River! It was awesome, because I would always see and hear hundreds of frogs there!
ONE last question: Does Bear Lake freeze during the winter? Take care. - LARRY :)

Re: Melinda ...This Page should answer your question. Short answer is yes. I’ve been all over the Bear River Range and the area around it. I know it very well.
Bear Lake does freeze in winter but not entirely. It is just too big. The lake is popular for ice fishing but there are areas of thin ice so you have to be careful.

Re: Melinda ...What a page! Comprehensive, and it did answer my question. When I see a high mountain lake, I always ask the question, "What's in it?" My next question is: How come I don't live next to this lake?
Thank God for Summitpost images! Take care.
