From Upper Ottoway
From Snow Pass, Secor says to ascend the east side of the northeast ridge -- but for the first 50 yards or so, the west side is more gentle. Just cross over when it cliffs out.

From Quartz Mtn TH
Long, scenic dayhike up the Merced, through high meadows, and among the talus into the clouds!

S Ridge
A snowy ascent up the South Ridge. The snow made what was likely an uneventful ascent much more exciting. Great views from the top, all in all a fun fall peak.

NE Ridge
Woke up at Lake 10425 after climbing Gray Peak the day before, up Red Peak in the morning, followed the ridge from Red Peak Pass over Ottoway Peak and up to Merced (happy to drop the full pack for the first time at the saddle before Merced. From Merced on to Triple Divide, then back to Upper Ottoway Lake for the night before hiking out the next day.

Merced Pk-Red Pk dayhike from the Quartz Mtn TH. While not a stellar climb, Merced Peak boasts some very nice summit views--I spent much longer than I'd intended up there soaking them in on a glorious fall day. Red Peak, on the other hand, has no redeeming qualities. Ugh.

From Upper Ottoway Lakes, Ray and I scrambled up to Merced Peak then over to Triple Divide Peak. The scramble down to the north was a bit sketchy over some steep snow (sans crampons), but we finally made it back to the Red Peak Trail which brought us up over the pass and back to our campsite.
