Milestone & MIdway
3-day trip with Mihai and friends to climb really remote Sierra peaks. Got both Milestone & Midway. Approached from Shepperd Pass TH and camped near Kern River. Really good trip.

East Ridge from Milestone
Last of 4 peaks on the Great Western Divide climbed on this trip. We traversed from Milestone to gain a notch on the East Ridge. Cruiser from there. Trip report

Traversed From Milestone
8 hr day camp to camp with Milestone; wish this peak had some Class 3 but the views are worth the climb. Packed and moved to Shepherd Pass making this a 13-hr day with some drizzle and 18 miles. Tired ...
Quick up and down the east ridge in between a trip to Table and Milestone. Storms to the north stayed just out of reach, sunny skies where I was. The views were superb!

West Slope
~50 mile, 26 hour continuous push from Marvin Pass. We were hoping to climb Milestone but didn't bring enough gear to navigate the snow remaining in its chutes. Fantastic views and weather, and didn't see another soul the whole time!

From Milestone
Dropped down through the basin east of the ridge. Pretty straightforward.

East Ridge
From Milestone, headed directly for the notch on the East Ridge, then slogged to the top. Around 1hr 40min from Milestone. Went on to climb Table and Thunder on the same day.

Traverse from Milestone
Wandered over to the top of Midway from Milestone. The traverse is nothing special but the route to the top is fun and stable class 2. My camelback froze at the top of the peak and didn't thaw out for the rest of the hike. Brrr....

East Ridge
A Milestone/Midway combo dayhike out of Shepherd Pass TH, four years after Matthew had done the same hike. Trip Report

East Ridge and East Slope
Tried to follow the north side of east ridge, but found myself getting bogged down in very steep icy snow. Descended to base of east slope and climbed to summit. The register went back to 1912! Thunder clouds were building up, so I couldn't sit and read it as I usually would. :(

Second stop on a Milestone-Midway dayhike out of the Shepherd Pass TH, a very long and tiring day. I balked at the south ridge (and couldn't spot the alleged fourth class weakness on the dramatically steep SE Face to avoid the technical stuff), so opted for the more certain traverse via the east ridge notch.
Views were quite nice, but mostly I was just glad to be able to tick this one off The List.

I did the traverse to the East Ridge from Milestone Mountain. Other than the class 3 down climb from the summit of Milestone, I thought this route was pretty standard Sierra class 2 talus. The blocks were mostly solid if you climb close to the ridge (and the impressive drop off onto the SE face kept things interesting).

I climbed this peak after Milestone Mountain, via the traverse from Milestone. It was the end of another great day in the Sierra near the end of a long backpacking trip. We descended the West Slope route, where we fortunately encountered several hundred feet of sand, which made things easier. This and Milestone were the only peaks we climbed on that trip, although we tried Black Kaweah.
