Moapa with friends
"Rest" day from sport climbing in Lime Kiln canyon. Hike with Brent, Natalie, Jen, and Christoph. Fun scrambling, cool peak. Classic desert peakbagging for sure. 6 hrs 15 min roundtrip, which included taking a wrong turn on the descent.

with Dennis and Richie (Wasatch Mountain Club hike). About 3 hr 15 min to summit. We wasted an hour on descent by following cairns running under the upper cliff band rather than the lower cliff band (the way we came up). Not sure where those lead! Beware - you'll be cliffed out if you make this mistake. Best thing is to start early!

Classic! So fun! With Derick and Kevin
That knife edge ridge to the summit was longer than expected, and perfect! Perfect combo of adrenaline, length, difficulty, and fun.
Because we wanted to be on the mountain for sunset, we got to down climb in the dark. Hopefully someday there will be a real trail the first half and a better road to the "trailhead". All part of the adventure for now. Being some of the few people who have ever been on top of this mountain was incredible and sad all at the same time. https://www.strava.com/activities/3287249973

Maybe it's over-hyped, because I didn't enjoy this one very much.

Good desert peak
Penelope May-Smrz and I hiked up this nice desert peak on our way to ski at Brian Head. The access road was deeply washed out in three places so we smoothed it out with our shovel, rest was reasonable terrain for Subaru Outback. We had a bit of snow on the short summit ridge, but the sharp part of the ridge is very short. We also saw a family of bighorn sheep,a wonderful sight. We liked the feel of the area, it is somewhat remote from I-15 and one feels away from it all. There were 11 entries in the register since our friend Garry Schenk's party placed the register in 2012.

Awesome!
So much fun! A big day for sure, lots of elevation gain, fun scrambling throughout, and that knife edge is as good (actually, better) than advertised. We saw a large Big Horn Sheep ram on the way in. Got off route on the way down, traversed under the top set of cliffs instead of the lower set and had to backtrack. Still, an amazing climb that I am definitely going to do again.

Moapa
This is a fine peak with easy access from I-15. A high-clearance vehicle is all one needs to get to the trailhead. The road continues further, but there is no practical advantage. There is a short class 4 series of moves off a large ledge above the saddle between points 4542' and 5246', although a way around this might be found down and to the left. This was the technical crux. The summit ridge was fun. A family unit of bighorn sheep was encountered below the lower northeast summit. I climbed the peak during the afternoon with intermittent showers scattered across the desert horizon. No ticks!
Very windy along the knife edge, with gusts up to 40 mph adding some spice to the trip.

Standard route from 2WD trailhead
Made it about 2 miles from the normal trailhead in a low-clearance car with only minor damage. Cool peak, though a bit of a loose slog in places. Trip report.

Standard Route
Fun climb with a good group. The summit ridge was cool, but I didn't find the exposure to be very bad at all. I thought the highlight was the early morning view to the north of the rest of the Mormon Mountains. We got a slow leak flat tire on the drive back to I-15. Climbed Virgin Peak in the afternoon making for a long day.

Standard RouteFound a bit more snow/ice on the knife edge than I was comfortable with solo so I'll need to head back out there in a month or so.
Pics and commentary here.
Edit: Went back and finished the knife edge. The summit registry needs a new booklet if anyone is heading up. Lots of ticks today.
