East Face talus
Took the use trail over the shoulder down to the saddle between Modjeska and Santiago. Then, off trail to reach the talus slope I saw on sat view. Then, up through brush and rocks. My 5th summit and a unique one.

Silverado Canyon
Mountain biked out of Silverado Canyon to the saddle between Santiago and Modjeska...took the tunnel trail with busted up truck wreck from saddle up to Santiago then turned around came down and hiked up to Modjeska. Lots of dirt bikes and 4wd on the way down, be careful of them!

Modjeska in February
Took the Harding Truck Trail and the Modjeska Peak trail to the top. Had the peak all to myself even though it looked like a number of people were over on Santiago.

Modjeska peak
Maple Springs Road to Modjeska Peak. Total distance is actually 16.84 miles with an elevation gain of 3600' if you start at Silverado trail parking lot.

The first hike of the new year
Went up the holy Jim trail to Santagio peak and also hit modjeska that day. Trabuco Creek Road was impassable the bridges were washed out. Had to start the hike about three mile from the actual trail head making for a long hike.

From Santiago
Followed the Main Divide Road from Santiago since I couldn't figure out the directions from the HPS website. On the way back, I was able to follow the HPS directions which said the trail from Santiago to Modjeska was not obvious and overgrown. Come to find out, it starts right at a hairpin turn in the road below Santiago and is blocked by a gate which is easily bypassed. The "trail" is actually an old road to start out with and is not at all overgrown. I remember passing it on the way up to Santiago and thinking that couldn't be it because it was too obvious. Oh well. No views the entire day due to fog.

From Santiago
What a cool hike, to get to this peak. Nice views. The top was a bit brisk and windy, but it was a great reward. Came from Santiago and the Holy Jim. The rest of the hike fell apart with miscommunications and our leader taking us down a way that made for an extra few more miles, but I choke it up to more experience and more training. That did though did not take away from being on top of this local landmark.

Santiago-Modjeska via Holy Jim
Covered both peaks in just over 7 hours and only narrowly avoided getting run over by a mtn biker once! More worthwhile summit than Santiago and it's obscene antennae farm. No summit can unfortunately. Great views of Baldy and San Gabriels.

Not Quite
We were going to try and make this peak, but ran out of time. We started by Blue Jay Campground and followed the Main Divide Road along the ridge and bagged Los Pinos Peak and Trabucco Peak. The summit of Santiago was fully engulfed in clouds and it was getting real cold. We tried to head over to Modjeska, but were just running out of time. So we booked it back the Main Divide Road and took the Holy Jim Trail down into Trabucco Canyon. Maybe I can come back some day and do this peak. Maybe I could combine it with Santiago and get a view too.

Ascended Holy Jim, Descended Joplin Trail
A nice hike via Holy Jim and Joplin trails. Climbed Modjeska as well. Perfect weather, some snow above 5000 ft. The firebreak cleared during recent fires across Modjeska was a bit of an eye sore, as were all the towers on Santiago.
Here are my GPS tracks, elevation profile, Google Map and some photos.
