"As an adolescent I aspired to lasting fame, I craved factual certainty, and I thirsted for a meaningful vision of human life - so I became a scientist. This is like becoming an archbishop so you can meet girls."

Full traverseAfter a night under the stars, in vicinity of Monte Sperone Tiburtini, start at AM 5.30, about two hours to the summit of Monte Sirente, and another four to complete a full traverse with an ascent of Monte San Nicola. Great views from the ridge shortly after sunrise! Then the heat of august, testing my endurance on the descent towards Ovindoli. Scarce signposting on the vast high plains.

South slopesStarted a bit abbove Aielli to hike along long switchbacks on a dirt road. Finally reached the karst plains and plateaus to the south of Sirente. Got fooled by our GPS track and freestyled up the mountain for most of the way. Wonderfull meadows with orchids and violets. The summit, however, was covered in fog so that we didn't see a bit of the famed view into its north face. Descended the same way, though on the proper trail this time.
