Mount Angeles East Face

The east face of the "middle peak" of Mount Angeles. The true summit can be seen illuminated by the morning sun on the left. This 1/2 mile long N-S ridge is said to be class 3-4 along the south portion (left) and more 5th class towards the north portion (right), but it all looks 5th class to me. I attempted a scramble starting at the first prominent notch along the right ridge line seen here. I made it up a dirty class 3 gully to the saddle and then up the ridge to about 6200 ft before running into a cliff. There was a rappel sling there and I couldn't find a way to descend so I called it a day. Olympic Mountains, WA. 9-5-15

I don't know anyone who has done the middle peak. Sounds like you gave it an honorable try.

Thanks! Yeah, there's probably a reason not many make that summit. That rock is sketchy. There might be 3rd class route through one of those ribs and gullies closer to the south (center of the photo), but there is a lot of scree to cross to get there and rock quality is pretty bad. I did not have fun on my descent!
