Route Climbed: Intended to do the South Route Date Climbed: September 18, 2001
We made a cardinal mistake on this outing. We decided to leave our base camp down in Fisher Creek Basin and carry only enough for a lean-to bivouac up to Silent Lakes. The guide book pages and USGS maps were all in someone else's pack and I didn't think to double-check my reliable friend. Well, while packing for the climb we found that the material wasn't there, so we had little clue where the mountain was, let alone how to get to it. So we did the next best thing--climb something to get the view and determine where the objective is for the next trip. We still had to hike all the way out to the cars that day, and the weather was closing in fast. So we couldn't have summitted Arriva even if we knew where to go due to lack of time. But this is a place to return to, and I can't wait to see the terrain from the top of Arriva!
