Beautiful Balfour baby
Summited Mt. Balfour on March 31, 2007 via the South-East Ridge from Balfour High Col with a late start from the R.J. Ritchie (Balfour) Hut. Original plan was to approach from Bow Lake/Bow Hut, spend a night at the Balfour Hut, then summit Mt. Balfour enroute to Scott Duncan Hut. Day 3 exit the icefield via Bath Glacier, Paget Peak/Mt. Bosworth col to the Sherbrooke Lake trailhead.
Despite a great weather forecast, we ran into whiteout conditions near the Balfour Hut. Day 2 we woke to complete whiteout conditions so we sat in the Balfour Hut and drank coffee. Around noon the clouds lifted and the winds dropped; since it was late in the day, we decided to ski/climb Balfour then return to the Balfour Hut and exit back to Bow Lake. The Balfour Hut is easy to reach from the Bow Lake approach for any fit ski mountaineer.
