Mt. Belford & Oxford  Sucess!

As my 1st 14er, I was lucky enough to bag 2(Belford & Oxford). With 5900 vertical ft. gained it was awesome.

A nice gulch. I liked the cabin down below at treeline. Not a real exciting hike but good views. I was the only one up there this day. That seems to happen alot?!

This is a very straight forward route. Good trail all the way to the summit. For fun, we camped a night near the cabin ruins just off the trail. We met another climber who had been harrassed by marmots all night. Apparently, they tried to drag is pack away several times.

Route Climbed: Standard Trail Date Climbed: August 20, 2004  Sucess!

Nice views, but relatively cold and snowy I thought for that time of year. We did the Maroon Bells 2 days before this and this was a warm up for the Pikes Peak run the next day.

Route Climbed: Missouri Gulch, standard Date Climbed: Summer 2003  Sucess!

This was the only peak I did this year. I was out of shape, my knee was killing me on the way down, I was getting passed by boy scouts on the way up and down, and I got drenched from rain. With Osita.

Route Climbed: Standard (West Slopes) Date Climbed: October 22, 2005  Sucess!

Snow, snow and more snow. 2-3+ feet of fresh powder above 11,000 feet, as well as a good bit of wind. I wore snowshoes much of the way, but they didn't help a whole lot. Gave up plans on Oxford after breaking the trail all the way to Belford's summit, taking 8 hours just to make it to the top. Two and a half hour descent--beautiful Sawatch views.

Route Climbed: Variation of West Slopes Date Climbed: May 30, 2005  Sucess!

We stayed overnight on the 29th and some wicked snowstorm came in and it was quite cold in the morning. We were going to do Belford/Oxford/Missouri, but my partner was getting frostbite, so we just took the route straight up the side of the mountain a little east of the west slopes route labeled in Roach's book, glissaded back down and out to the car.

My first fourteener and an awesome one at that. But it was COLD! Trevor and I scurried down quickly after summiting. The sun came out just before it set, a welcome surprise. A great climb though!

Route Climbed: Clear Creek Date Climbed: September 9, 2005  Sucess!

After packing heavy in, we made camp and summitted. I didn't keep a watch on the climb, but relatively short. Very chilly weather for this time of year. The rain put a damper on our weekend plans, which included Oxford and Missouri as well.

Route Climbed: Northwest Slopes Date Climbed: August 4, 2004  Sucess!

2/4/12- hiked belford on the way to oxford. deep, slippery snow made the NW ridge a tiring and taxing experience.

2/12/10- hiked belford w/mike in a day for my 20th winter fourteener(13.2 miles/5200' vertical). nice weather down low gave way to complete nastiness above 13,000'. we decided against oxford because of that. it ended up being a great decision as the sawatch was socked in the remainder of the weekend.

8/4/04- a beautiful summer route, loved the drainage. very, very steep!

Route Climbed: From Oxford, down Elkhead Pass Date Climbed: July 11, 2005  Sucess!

2nd 14er of my life, 1 hour after summiting my 1st, which was Oxford. Flawless weather @ 14197, like a Denver afternoon! Couldn't find the canister though, so I'm registering it here.

Route Climbed: Elkhead Pass from Mt Oxford Date Climbed: August 2, 2005  Sucess!

After summitting Oxford, we returned on the ridge, making the summit of Belford around 12:30, again in the wind. This was the third in two days and the last climbing before our descent to the car and the trailhead. We descended the northwest flanks of Belford, rather than our ascent route. Great two days.

Route Climbed: Missouri Gulch Date Climbed: July 24, 2005  Sucess!

I hiked Belford with my sister's friend, Kate. The weather was a little unsettled and partly cloudy, but not too terribly windy, but it was quite chilly at higher elevations. Then we went on to Oxford. We did get a trace of rain and a little thunder on the way down.
