I was looking for the trail to do Mt Evans from the Guanella Pass trailhead, but I must have walked right past it. No matter, ended doing Bierstadt instead. My dog's first fourteener!

Third Fourteener
Nice trail and an enjoyable hike. Ran into the ubiquitous backcountry know-it-all who tried to advise us on every aspect of our hike, but you can't let those folks ruin your day. Of the four I've done so far (Grays, Torreys, Bierstadt, Quandary), this might have been the best overall.

14'er!!
First one of the summer. Took Diane along for her first one ever. Great climb/hike, started at 6 am and 36 degrees, finished a couple hours and much warmer later. Crowds and crowds headed up while we were coming back down.
Went up on Thanksgiving; got a little frostnip and a great appetite. I like working off dinner first. =)

Guanella Pass
First attempted and first sucessful 14er since moving to Colorado a month previous. Great weather, a waltz up to the top. Compacted snow with almost no postholing, an easy and enjoyable winter ascent.

Bierstadt solo
Started at 6:20 (solo) and there were 4 or 5 groups ahead of me. Also starting at the same time was Jan from Denver (solo) Both of us made good time and quickly passed the other groups. Was on the summit in just under two hours, arriving at the same time as another group that had started earlier and just after Jan. The views were fantastic! Third 14er in three days. Sooooo many people on the trail that I passed on the way down. I was happy I started early.

4th of July 14er
Was the first to summit on 7/4/02. I must've left too early since I beat the flag to the top (they attempted to post a US flag at the summit of every 14er on July 4th that year). That's okay though because thunderheads were already building by 9:00AM on my descent. Yikes!

Great Colorado Day!
This day affirms why I live in Colorado. The weather was picture perfect when I started the ascent at 7 AM with nary a cloud in the sky and temps hovering around 45-50 degrees. The parking lot was 30-40% full already but I hardly saw anyone on the trail as I was going up. One guy had a large 40-45 lb pack heading up to the summit. Turns out he's leaving for Denali in 1.5 weeks and this was a final training hike. I passed about 4-5 people on the way up and was happy to see only 4 people on the summit. It was rather breazy so the windchill was brisk at 9 AM. I hung out for about 30 minutes and decided to head down to avoid the impending crowds. As expected, the people train was working it's way up as I was 1/2 way down. The wildflowers were all out and make for some great pics! I was back at the trailhead at noon after taking a USFS Ranger Volunteers survey about trail use, etc. Total time: 5 hours

A nasty bit of windburn at the top, but otherwise smooth sailing.

A Ski in the North Bowl
One of us skied from the summit, not I. The west flank was pretty windblown so we decided to drop into the deeper and steeper north bowl and it was a sweet descent. A long trek back out but somebody had blazed a trail already.

Sawtooth Traverse
A much nicer day. the ridge traverse across to the Sawtooth is a lot of fun. Some very cool exposure on the north side that you can play around with. You can choose how gnarly you want to make it.

Like walking in the mall
String of climbers just like mall walkers. Met a gentleman on his 483rd 14er summit.
Very fun snow climb. Was crowded for a winter climb, though.

Yeah. Nice day out despite the grey clouds and wind. Thought we might get some static on top, but conditions remained good enough. Good training day and an opportunity to show a friend their first 14er.

West Slope
Went with my sister, her 10-year-old son, and good friend Adam. Memorial Day. Had a nice climb up the easy west slope trail. Trail was rather muddy with a few snow and ice patches. Trail was pretty busy. Lots of climbers around the summit.
