Soon after eruption, lots of ashes  Sucess!

Visited the volcano not long after an eruption, all the trees around were dead and thick mayer of ash was covering everything. The crater was smoking quite a lot; Really cool volcanic experience.

Route Climbed: rim Date Climbed: May 2004  Sucess!

The most awesome setting of any of the volcanoes I climbed in Java. I traversed the rim, which was worth the time and trouble. Two weeks later a small eruption killed two visitors.

Route Climbed: started from Ranupane and reach to basecamp of Tengger Bromo Date Climbed: december 2003  Sucess!

During my summit Mount Bromo there are some active gas gushing from the craters of this mountain. We manage to trek halfway because the thick smoke and the sulphur gas choking our breath hinder us to move to the end edge of the peak

Route Climbed: no idea, it was dark Date Climbed: some time in 1994  Sucess!

Setting out in the dark to catch the sunrise, we managed to climb the wrong mountain, and only realised our mistake when daylight revealed a whole bunch of people on a different cone. Then we had to go and climb bromo too, which was nice.

Route Climbed: Down and Up crater interior ;-) Date Climbed: June 2001  Sucess!

Well, of course reaching the 'summit' is no big deal,

It is no 'climb', all you have to do is to walk up some

stairs. More interesting and also not recommendable

to the average tourist is the descent to the bottom

of the Bromo-Crater itself.

I knew that religous people do this as a ceremony,

so I considered it to be do-able, but I was the only

one around with that opinion ;-)

I went down and it was an interesting expererience,

I stood in the fumes and felt the warmth and the

smell very intensively. Don't get too near to the

very inner whole, because the faces are a bit instable.

(You can go near to some yards)

NOTE: This excursion seems to be impossible at the

moment, as there were many smaller eruptions since Nov.29.2000
