Route Climbed: from Lake Colden Date Climbed: August 18, 1994
My wife and I spend a week at Lake Colden in 1994. Day one was a pretty long and hard backpack, so on day 2 we decided to have a "rest day" and bag Colden. Excellent views! I definitely want to get back there and do the trapdike, maybe in winter. Turned out to be a great trip, my only regret is neglecting to include Skylight the day we did Marcy and Haystack.
Route Climbed: Trap Dyke Date Climbed: July 10, 2001
My two friends and I climbed via the trap dyke. It is my favorite hike in the ADK High Peaks. However, we failed to cut over to the rock slide at the correct point and thus we ended up in a horrible bushwhack to the summit. We did not find the slide until we reached the summit. I will climb this route again the correct way!
Route Climbed: LOJ to Macry dam to Lake Colden (Down past Lake Colden) Date Climbed: 8/20/02
Took my 11 y/o son on this 14+ mile jaunt to the summit. Just a boy and his dad, you can't ask for anything more. Perfect day (clear and low 70's) made for a spectacular view. One of the nicest summits I've been on, plus it is fairly easy to get to. Spent over an hour all by ourselves on the summit. Not bad for a summer weekday.
Plan on going up this one again with the wife and daughter (9 y/o).
Lake Arnold sucked for me too. I was stuck in a three day rain and sleet storm that forced me to cut my plans short from climbing Mt. Marcy and other mountains. The view from Mt. Colden was excellent, but the view from the nearby false summit was even more impressive. The best part in an otherwise disasterous trip.
Amazing expierence. Totaly out of this world. Only complantent was being laughed at by several DEC employees at the Noonmark Diner when we told them we were doing the dike. Also, my dad (who dosent rock climb) didn't have the greatest time on the waterfall.

Route Climbed: Via Lake Arnold Date Climbed: July 00Lake Arnold sucks. Its a bug infested mud hole with a bad trail. But the views from Colden are unbeatable. Well worth the mud.
