My first sierra route. I thought this was a really long approach. Ha! Great climbing and views.

Route Climbed: Dog Route  Sucess!

Still lots of snow in Yosemite! A very accessible 13'er from Tioga Pass, though not a huge fan of the trail. Had a cheese burger at Tioga Pass Resort down the road from the gate... awesome!

Route Climbed: Dana Couloir Date Climbed: 7/10/2004 Sucess!
Climbed with balajisv. Bergschrund is just opening, about 10 ft. long. We brought rope and pro but didn't need it as there wasn't any ice exposed in the gully.

Route Climbed: Glacier Canyon/North Face Date Climbed: 7/10/2001 Sucess!
Climbed with Anna on her quest to conquer Dana. We decided to not be a tourist and do a variation starting in Glacier Canyon. We descended the normal route.

Route Climbed: Galcier Canyon/NW Ridge Date Climbed: June 24, 2005  Sucess!

Incredible summit views. The skiing down the NE ridge and the couloir was the best backcountry skiing I've ever done. Well, almost the best, but I won't say where that was...

Route Climbed: Dana Couloir Date Climbed: 26 June 2005  Sucess!

Heavy snow year in 2005 - looks like Dana Couloir will have snow for another few weeks. Approach was extremely long, so much sun cup snow. Got run over by a snowboarder on the couloir and had to use self arrest (for the first time ever). Glad to report it worked!

Route Climbed: Class 1 from Tioga Pass Date Climbed: July 1976/July 1977  Sucess!

This is the first peak I ever climbed at the young age of 16. Got me started on a fairly long list of Sierra peaks bagged through the years. Climbed it again in 1977 (I think!) via the glacier/couloir route with newly purchased ice-axes (we sure looked cool hiking the JMT with those!). Climbed both times with Tim Stafford.

Route Climbed: Standard walk-up Date Climbed: July 2002  Sucess!

A group of friends and I hiked up Dana one night after work to watch the moonrise. We had only been on top for 5 minutes or so when the biggest moon I've ever seen popped out over Mono Lake and the Craters. Up there with the most breathtaking things I've ever seen, for sure. The walk-off was mellow with a headlamp and a little moonlight.

2 feet of new snow made it tiring, but fresh.

Route Climbed: Tioga Pass Slopes Date Climbed: 06/27/99  Sucess!

Really nice day hike. Mono Lake from the summit was awsome. The register on the summit had some really moving entries in it.

One of my first Sierra summit's. It just seems like yesterday though it has been more than 20 years ago.

Had a day off mid-week and went for it. Huffed and puffed due to sea-level lungs.

Route Climbed: Standard Route (NW & West Slope) Date Climbed: June 9, 2004  Sucess!

This was such a fun little hike, with really awesome views. We even got to glissade a bit on the way down - sometimes it wasn't steep enough though, so we had to take a running start :)

Route Climbed: Dana Couloir Date Climbed: September 25th  Sucess!

On September 25th, 2004, Penelope May and I climbed the Dana Couloir from our campsite on the right side (looking up) of the sickle shaped lake just below Dana Lake. The couloir was in perfect conditions with rock hard water ice in the center and good alpine ice on both sides. At the top of the gully we turned left, and traversed the ridge back to Dana Plateau. There we droped down the steep scree slope back to our tent.

Route Climbed: From Tioga Pass up the north slope. Date Climbed: Circa 1988 and again in February 1990  Sucess!

An easy, direct hike and plenty of beautiful wildflowers on the lower slope.

When I stayed at the Tioga Lodge in the winter I snowshoed most of the peak from the pass and carefully hiked over snow and ice to the summit.
