Stewart St.
Parked near Stewart and Taylor streets. Hiked the dirt road but decided to xc a more direct route instead of following the power poles. 45 minutes to the top. Couldn’t find a summit box. Took the direct route down passed the painted “V”, 30 minutes down.

Successful climb on a windy day
Summited with 18 people and 2 dogs on a windy day.
We started hike Spanish Ravine, hiked Ophir hill 1st then Mt Davidson.
Beautiful views of Washoe lake, Sierras and Virginia City.

NV Co HP #8
Up via the telephone pole road in Spanish ravine. Also hit Ophir Hill, Mt Bullion and Butler Pk. Descended xc down Butler’s east ridge.
Beautiful sunny spring day from Virginia City. Scenic ridgeline from Ophir Hill. Somewhat technical at the top. Great views all around. My first Great Basin Listed Peak and first County High Point in NV. Descended via the telephone line. Very loose and rocky there.

Mrs and I decided to top off Storey County today. Parked at the courthouse and hit the summit at 1130am. Very steep sometimes, but manageable. Lots of smoke all around, but the view of Reno and Washoe valley was neat.

short excursion
made a quick trip down from Reno to hike up this. Overall, pretty underwhelming except the view of the Sierra. Spanish ravine was not terribly enjoyable. Virginia City itself is sort of interesting and worth a visit. This peak probably only for dedicated COHPers and P2Kers

And then to Ophir Hill
#1 5-27-17 w/ Yadahzoe after bagging East Peak in the morning. What a contrast: all snow on East Peak, zero white stuff on Davidson. We made the mistake of asking local people gathered for a Memorial Day weekend parade where the water towers were and they pointed us to the 3 nearby at the south end of town, near Gold Hill. So we hiked up to them, found a contouring unmaintained road and walked it north until seeing a sandy narrow trail heading straight up to the west. We took it for a few miserable minutes and then simply bushwhacked upward through the sagebrush and a few rocky areas until reaching the summit. The flagpole was there but no flag. Then strolled over to Ophir Hill. The road coming down from there to merge with the Spanish Ravine road is simply horrible: steep, loose, rocky and rutted.

Collected Middle Hill, Ophir Hill, Davidson, Bullion and Butler on a fine November day, some snow on the north facing slopes added to the fun.

via Ophir
via Ophir Hill. Did not take telephone pole route but stayed right on wider dirt/rock road up to and along the ridge past a subsidiary antenna structure up to main towers and rocks on Ophir. Then down to the saddle following the obvious route to Davidson
On the descent cut cross country down to telephone poles and descended. Saw three wild horses quietly grazing.

Second Time Up
Later this day I would see Eric Kassan's completion of Nevada's county prominence HP list on Virginia Peak, so I joined him in the morning to also climb Mt Davidson.
Years ago I did a direct assault from Virginia City via the big V. This time we used the Spanish Ravine/ powerpole route.
Park in the lot near the outhouse with the crescent moon. Above at the right is the road that goes up Spanish ravine. Go past the water tank which will be on your left. Just past the hairpin turn where the road leaves the canyon going left is the start of the road directly under the power poles. Follow this to where the ravine ends in a shallow basin just before the ridge. Here the poles and its road end as well, as the cables now go underground. Keep going up this basin westward to the gentle saddle and the ridge where the road along the ridgeline will take you S then SE to the summit. A very short and easy rock scramble completes the ascent.

Main road up/Spanish Ravine down
Gentle hike with really nice views; an interesting contrast to the "beer-gut tourism" at the trail head. Ophir Hill is worth the hike over too. 7th Nevada county highpoint so far. Party on Wayne!
