Mount Davidson at Night  Sucess!

Spur of the moment climb ended up as an nighttime climb to the top. It was pretty amazing to see the lights of Reno, Carson City, Genoa, Minden and Gardnervile, Silver Springs, Stagecoach, and Round Mountain all at the same time.

East Slope Hike  Sucess!

Hiked up with Craig W. and 4 others from behind the mining pit on the south end of town. Came back down the Spanish Gulch. The sound of the tourist steam train was always within earshot.

Second CoHP Of The Day  Sucess!

After finishing the "9/11 Mount Grant Memorial Challenge" in Mineral County, my teammate (Mike Collins) met-up with some other participants/friends from Washington (Bob Bolton, Duane Gilliland, Ken Russell, Greg Slayden). We headed north towards Reno, stopping at Virginia City to bag this CoHP together. There was a funny character ("Eric") at the summit trying to put an American flag on the old flagpole. Greg helped. The views from summit were great. We ascended the steep slopes on the SE side, and then descended via roads back to Virginia City on the WNW side.

Great loop hike on a nice clear day. We made a point to visit the mine pile-outs and were rewarded with with many beautiful quartz crystals.

Plan B  Sucess!

We planned to ski at Squaw Valley, but the wind and weather was so bad only the lower mountain was open, other resorts we closed or partially open too. Instead went to Reno for the day and the Patagonia President's Day weekend sale. Afterwards had some time so decided on this. Didn't have a map or good directions at the time. Tried to find Ophir Grade road, but once I got home realized I ended up using Spanish Ravine instead.

Am starting NV cohp so this will be first

Great View  Sucess!

Took a quick drive up from Reno after work and started the hike from the top of Taylor Street. Not much snow left and a good number of flowers starting to bloom. The views are excellent and the "signatures" from the 1870s on the summit poles & rocks are worth checking out.

Davidson and Ophir at the end of March

I hiked both Mount Davidson and Ophir Hill. First, I hiked up the road under the telephone poles. I went to Ophir Hill first. Then I hiked Mount Davidson. The weather was clear and about 50 degrees. Snow has melted on Ophir Hill, with some snow packs on Davidson, but much has melted. All told, in about 4 miles, I probably walked over 1/4 mile of snow.

Spanish Ravine  Sucess!

Tagged Mt. Davidson along with Ophir Hill. I ascended via the Spanish Ravine to Ophir Hill then along the ridge. A storm from the prior week left several feet of snow which had enough time to consolidate to make the postholing really bad.

Both summits have great views. Mt. Davidson better of Virginia City and Ophir Hill better of Reno and the Washoe Valley.

Easy hike from the water tanks up along Spanish Ravine to the ridgeline, then from there to the summit. Many tracks of wild horses.
