Fun stop over
Wife and I climbed this peak when we first met! Not too much to look at, but I still love PA mountains. Fun little hike and hey, you have to visit the highest peak in PA if you are near.

High Point Trail
Paid this place a visit while visiting family in Pittsburgh. Took the High Point Trail with my dog. Saw bear and fox tracks in the snow, but not much else. Virtually had the place to myself.

State High Point / Great Views
Took the kids to visit the temporary Flight 93 memorial in Shanksville, PA and then drove down to Mt Davis. There is an observation tower to get you above the tree tops. There are also a number of nice hiking trails and historical/geographic markers around the summit. Very low key consistent with it being such a low elevation for a state high point.

Made the summit of Mt Davis after driving 7 hours to get there. It was very hazy so there was no view from the fire tower. We were going to camp in the area, but it was VERY dirty so I spoke with a ranger who said that he would not camp in the area if he was us. So, we left and went to Maryland’s H.P. and camped near there.
HP #4...and Mt. Davis makes 3 (for the day). Nice drive through the PA countryside with some real good views from the tower.

Stairs
It was rainy and windy, but Erin and I hiked up the stairs to the top of the observation tower. We saw the lone pine tree that's featured on this page, but not much else.

HPT
Passing by on the way to WV and thought we'd visit PA's roof. Weather was good. I thought some of the rock formations down the street would make decent crevasse rescue practice.

Mount Davis via High Point Trail My girlfriend completed her first state highpoint on Mount Davis. It was a pleasure to have her along for a hobby that I usually tackle alone. Hopefully, she'll complete some more with me soon.
The metal topographic map atop the adjacent observation tower really gives you a sense of the surrounding area.

Mount Davis
"We are not that far from Mount Davis you know," I said to my wife at 7:30 PM while we finished hiking on Backbone Mt. the HP of Maryland. So we got in the car and drove through a thunderstorm in the dark to Salisbury, PA. The driving seemed more difficult than walking through crevasses on Rainier. Visibility was poor and I thought I was going to drive off the road. Don't they ever paint the highway lines in PA? Drove to the summit parking lot and found the HP and benchmark on a rock in the dark. Left summit at about 9:30 PM and still had to drive to Seneca Rocks, WV to get to our cabin. HP #14.

Unique landscape for a guy from out west.
My seventh state high point and the first of three in one day. Nice tower! I was in Pittsburgh on business and took an extra day to see the highest "mountains" of Pennsylvania, Maryland, and West Virginia.
