Auto Mountaineering
Took some time off while visiting San Francisco to drive to the top. The road was long and meandering which required lots of concentration due to all the bikers making the ascent. So if I wanted to take in the view I stopped at a pullout. The bike riders are very aggressive as to ownership of the rode. At the summit parking lot we witnessed one poor tourist with his family in tow being openly berated for his driving skills by a group of bicyclists.

Mitchell Canyon
Hiked this all day with my Dad. Reached the summit then bagged the north peak on the way back down. We took the wide trail/road to the top and then the windy path down from the north peak. Next time would like to do it in reverse

With North Peak
Drove up then did a trail run loop that included North Peak and Devil's Pulpit. Smog obscured the views to the central valley.

from Mitchell Canyon TH
Like most bay area denizens, I've hiked up this thing over and over. This time was special though - it's been exactly 6 months since my accident.
Started from Mitchell Canyon trailhead, went up Mitchell Rock trail to Eagle Peak. Then up Bald Ridge trail and then on a steep use trail to bypass the N. Peak trail. Descended loose class 2-3 choss off Devil's Pulpit to the N. Peak trail and most of the way up N. Peak road before deciding to call it a day and start down (fading daylight and calf muscles). Returned via Back Canyon & Coulter Pine trails. I'd guess it was about 14 miles / 4000' gain.

Training and learning
first visit was in a car to rock city then the summit about half a year before my first actual summit from Mitchell Canyon 'round my birthday. since then i've tried to go back every year... tried summiting from Mitchell Canyon to Twin Peaks and Eagle Peak once early September, and learned why it's called Devil Mountain! still have yet to see waterfalls and tarantulas, but have been startled witless coming up on a rattler! winter hiking just after a rain is awesome, if you can stand slogging through the mud awhile.

Back Creek Trail
Really enjoyed this route, as it offered a wide range of views, and wraps around the top of the mountain for views to the north then east, then south and finally west once up at the summit. Sierras were visible, as was the GG and Central Valley cities.

Leg Burner
Started at Mitchell Canyon TH at 8:20 with the fearsome 4. Crested Eagle Peak then proceeded to the summit, arrived at 10:50. Bunch of people on the summit oblivious to the fact that we hiked up from the very bottom. Left the summit at 11:20, and descended via the meridian Ridge Fire Road and connected with the Back Canyon creek trail and returned to the trailhead at 1:20. about 12 miles, was intense! Views were great.
Great mtn to bike and run and even a very few nice routes to climb - Amazing Face of course is a must do. Our 'local hill' for a couple good years in Cali.
