"Got tight last night on absinthe and did knife tricks. Great success shooting the knife into the piano. The woodworms are so bad and eat hell out of all furniture that you can always claim the woodworms did it."

Great ViewsYou can drive to many points along the mountain so you can change how hard or easy you want to make this hike. The views from the top are fantastic with the peak being so prominent.

Too hot to have started at noon!I regrettably made a last minute decision to hike this starting shortly after noon. I chose to go up the Mitchell Canyon route to the summit, and then head down a different way to form a loop. On the way down I hit Eagle Peak, Twin Peaks, and the top of Mitchell Rock. This was probably the sixth time I have ever hiked Diablo, and this will be the last. All the previous times I went both up and down Mitchell Canyon.

DayhikeDrove up to near the main summit, bagged this then headed down to Devil's Pulpit. From there I followed trails to the North Peak and then Mount Olympia. From Mount Olympia I headed down a trail I thought led back to the main peak, here I took advice from a less than knowledgable source who told me I needed to go cross country up a steep slope to rejoin the trail. After doing so, I ran into the same group as their trail DID go where I thought it did. As I passed they asked "did you get where you wanted to?" Someone miscommunicated, and I got a little karma hit for driving up to Mt. Diablo.

Hoped for the Sierra, saw very littleDrove up in the early morning - the summit parking lot was deserted and there was a coat of ice. Misty haze obscured everything... was hoping to see the Sierra.

5 Diablo PeaksAs part of my training for the High Sierra Trail, a group of friends and I backpacked five Diablo peaks. Started from Mitchell Canyon, tagged Twin Peaks and Eagle Peak, then camped at Juniper Campground. On Day 2 we tagged Diablo, North Peak, and Mt. Olympia before returning to Mitchell Canyon.

From juniper campground with North PeakWell, I figured if I had to travel on Sunday for work, I would make the best of it. Loved the drive up to Juniper campground parking area. Hurts upgraded me to a Dodge Charger, which made the drive quite pleasant. Hikes from Juniper up to the busy summit area of Mt Diablo, but didn't stay long. Left the crowds behind and distended towards North Peak. Loved it over here. Steep going near the top! Relaxed on the way back by a bubbling brook on Mt Diablos's north side. Saw a great looking snake plus a lot of Coulter Pine Cones. About 7 miles round trip.

One tough cycleRented a bike from Cycles on Solano in Albany (check them out, they are great). It was a hybrid with one of those internal drivetrains and a rubber "chain" -- not the best for Diablo, and it was slow going.
Started from downtown Danville (I know, I kind of took it easy on myself). It was a beautiful day and although there were motorists and other cyclists, I was surprised there were not more. Lovely view from the top though we could not quite see the Sierras.
I lived in Berkeley for 4 years and always promised myself I would cycle to the top. I cannot believe I waited this long to get up there.
