Long Lake trail
Did Sierra Buttes earlier in the afternoon and Elwell to round out the day.
Can't say I enjoyed the Long Lake trail all that much- horrible tread, annoying grading, obscured by a talus avalanche along the face of Elwell, and umteen switchbacks toward the peak.

Up in Smoke
Went up the trail on the SW Ridge in quite smokey conditions due to all the current Nor Cal fires. Started at the Lakes Basin Campground Trailhead and went out past Grass Lake to Hawley Falls before heading up to the north side of Long Lake and then up Mt. Elwell. Came down around the other side of Long Lake via Mud Lake, Hellgrammite Lake and Silver Lake and finished at the other Trailhead just past Elwell Lodge. This made for a really nice loop of about 8 miles. Highly recommended. Not a strenuous summit. A beautiful and uncrowded area.

Fun day
What Bob said. Elwell was very short even with snowshoes, and seemed kind of forgettable, but I enjoyed Adams a great deal.

SW Ridge via Long Lake Trail
There is no summit register, and only trace amounts of snow left. It took less than two hours from the trailhead to the summit at a leasurely pace. I descended the south face directly, but found myself surfing the Manzanita; no time saved.
