Might be overkill for such a short hike but what about camping possibilities nearby? Water sources? Weather and seasonal considerations? (You can just refer readers to the San Gabriel range page for that last one.)
The trail 2 miles north of the Mount Emma Road - Angeles Crest Highway junction is now marked by a sign (facing the parking area, not the road) for "Mount Emma Trail."
Edison Road and other entrances on the north side are now marked with LADWP "no trespassing" signs even though the land is still USG-owned.
