Drove it on a rest day between Elbert and Massive. Spectacular scenery! Hiked around Summit Lake and took some pictures. Definitely worth coming back to do the right way.
Was I successful? I guess so. I paid the $10 to drive up to the top. It was my first time in Colorado, and I wanted to see how I would feel on the top of a 14er. The next day I CLIMBED Mt. Elbert! Woo-Hoo. It was a total tourist thing to do, but it was fun. You guys in Colorado got it made. Lucky dogs.

Anti-climactic
Got up early to beat the crowds. We were third on summit, but by the time we were ready to head back, the parade had begun.
Amazing Climb! The Sawtooth was fun and much easier than I expected it to be. The crowd of motorists at the summit was disappointing. Hiked the west ridge route down and had to bushwack through the willows in order to get back to Guanella Pass.

The Crystal
Climbed the Crystal Couloir on Father's Day. The weather and conditions were perfect. My wife and daughter drove to the top and met me at the summit for a Father's Day celebration.

Crystal Couloir
Climbed the Crystal couloir in about 2 hours from Summit Lake. It was cold (well below freezing) and windy today. Nice fun moderate snow climb at altitude. We had very hard snow for the approach to the couloir and good step kicking snow for the climb.

A good combo
No one up there on a cold October day. Did Bierstadt and Evans via the Sawtooth Ridge (loved the Sawtooth). I would enjoy going back to try some of the snow routes on Evans!

Lost in the willows during the rain going from Guanella. So much fun. Good times.

via Sawtooth
Did Bierstadt first. A long day, with negotiating the willows on the way out, but a great twofer. Glad I knocked both peaks off before any more permit requirements are imposed.

via SawtoothI really don't like willows but a great climb overall. Saw about a dozen mountain goats.

Does driving count?I was passing through, and in the company of a non-hiker, so drove up. Nice place, though crowded. But I saw a lot of mountain goats close up.

Best done in winterClimb in winter to avoid the crowds. Be sure to hit "West Evans", too.
