Mount Fernow

Mount Fernow

Mount Fernow (background), one of the highest peaks in the Wild Sky Wilderness area of Washington, as seen from near the southwestern end of Jakes Lake (right side of photo). The general route from Jakes Lake to the Mount Fernow summit can be seen in this photo. Basically, head around the left side of Jakes Lake to the large boulder gully. Ascend up the boulder gully towards to rocky pinnacle looming above. The gully veers around the rightside of the rocky pinnacle and heads to the true summit ridge further away. The first half of the gully ascent from the lake is mostly a boulder walk, while the second half of the gully ascent to the summit ridge is mostly a steep dirt/heather/huckleberry shrubs walk.
