Went up on a cloudy, rainy day and couldn't see much from the summit. But, the forest we hiked through was beautiful!

Nice snow hike
Really frigid, windy and snowy, but a nice quick snow hike. Lots of cool ice formations just off the trail, including some frost flowers formed from moss under the rocks. A really nice and secluded hike overall.

Second mountain of the day
Two hours and twelve minutes from the parking lot at the depot after tagging Mt Tom earlier. Did Mt Willey after, then came back to descend down the Avalon trail.
Hiked a Willey, Tom, Field, Avalon overnight backpack. Watched the sun set and rise. Perfect weekend.

Highland Center
Climbed Field as part of a trip through the Willey Range. Started at the highland center, up the Avalon Trail to Field, then out to Willey and Back. Windy with clouds, so no good views.
I did it in !
16" of fresh powder on Turkey day. I scraped up my new "MSR LIGHTNING ASCENTS" on this hike. Aw well, they needed to be broken in anyways!

Climbed this in conjunction with Willey from the Avalon Trail. It was a hot day, and there was no water past Mt. Avalon spur trail, so my dog was a bit tired. Beware the blackflies!

4 in 1 Day
Took the ridge trail over from Mt. Tom. Beautiful sun-dapppled trails on the way over. Ran into 4 guys and their 4 dogs on the summit, nice group. Enjoyed the views over to the Mount Washington Hotel from the summit. Clark's Nutcrackers ate some blueberries out of my hand (those guys are as fearless in NH as they are home in OR). Headed from here on to Willey. After Willey, we came back this way and then took the Avalon Trail down to Avalon.

Steep to do in the snow.
Needed crampons for coming up from Mt. Avalon. There were high winds at the top, but a great view.

3rd 4000'!
My third 4000'! and we just added it on as an after thought from Mt Tom. At the summit, we were treated to a cute lil bird friend getting very close to us.
On the way down to hit Avalon again was a bit tricky with some ice, but overall not that difficult.
Yet another great time in the Whites!

King of the Willey Range
Nice day worked for clear views. One of the nicest prospects down to the Mount Washington Hotel that I have seen. It was perfectly framed through the trees at the summit blow down. While the Willey range is little and surrounded by mightier mountains, I may return at some point as they are a good day hike option.
We climbed Wiley, Tom, and Field in one day trip of about 6 hours, and we didn't go fast, so it's a pretty easy hike. We started at the Crawford RR station, near the AMC Highland Center. It was a fantastic day for hiking- clear, dry air, about 50-55 degrees. This trip had some OK views from Mt Wiley. but there are a lot of better ones. I just did it to knock them off my 4,000 footer list. Coming down Wiley was very steep, with some ladders. "Newbies" may want to go the reverse direction and get the painful part out ot the way at the beginning of the day.

Mount Field
Climbed with Tom, Willey and Avalon via the Willey Range Trail from Crawford Notch. Probably the least interesting of the three mountains in the range. Could barely see the Mount Washington Hotel through the trees at Field's summit.
