US State Highpoint 14/50
Second of three for June 11th! Finally something more exciting after a ton of driveups. Short round trip with partial low grade scramble to a nice view of a bunch of other mountains, very pretty. The New England air really is different. 14/50.

Frisselling
It was a warm afternoon and I thought the hike would be more trail and less scrambling. I came across another hiker who had run out of water and I gave him a pint of mine. Also tagged Frissell summit. Parking was hard to come by when I showed up. State highpoint #23.

Mount Frissell Trailhead, Mt Washington State Forest, Mass
Drove up to the Trailhead from Salisbury, CT via the Town Hall and continued up past Mount Riga on Mt Riga road past Bear Mountain. I wasn't prepared for the Frissell hike thinking it would be a relaxing hike like Bear Mountain. The first mile was easy, the rest difficult when the rocky dirt trail literally transitioned to rock climbing. It was straight up hard to find some of the red paint markers - the paint was so faded and worn off several boulders that if it weren't for the sky I wouldn't have made it with my dog.. The view was nice but Bear Mountain is much better. The straight down was a nightmare for me because after circling around the top I realized the difficulty going back down had to do with two different trails leading up to different points. Another hiker and I joined up to find our way back down. It took GPS and lots of stopping to find our way. I would not recommend Mount Frissell until they repaint some of the badly worn red markers.

High Point #23
Awesome hike through the woods! Wore my crampons and this was very necessary as the trail was covered in ice with two inches of snow on top... great trail markings most of the way (red paint on trees, rocks, etc), but not at the South Slope... so we did the full Mt. Frissell summit (bonus!) and then turned back around and got our pictures on the South Slope. Great sunny day with my dad.

HP# 12
Had a couple weeks off from work, decided to take a trip to the East from IL to hit a bunch of HPs. (HP 9 of 9 during this trip.) Pretty nice 3 mile-ish R/T hike. USGS marker at the point, with ammo can and register. Decent view to one direction basically.
Leah and I found the trailhead and hiked the 1.3 miles to the actual Mount Frissell summit and then to the south side of Mount Frissell to check off the Connecticut highpoint and peak # 14 for us!!!

Highpoint #7
Made a day trip out here, about a 3 hour drive from southern Rhode Island. Short hike, but some very rocky steep sections which was harder than anticipated after the rain.

Left SE PA at 0430 to make the run up to CT for this short highpoint hike. Much snowier/icier than we expected; most other hikers were wearing micro-spikes, but we made it. Tagged in a hike to Bash Bish falls - very pretty!

Oct 20, 2020 - Highpoint #48
Started at the Mount Frissell trailhead of the Mt. Washington State Forest (I guess in the State of MA?) on the MA/CT line. Wandered over Round Mountain CT, to the true summit of Frissell in MA, then to the state line of CT and MA which is the highest point in CT, then down to the Tri-state corner (MA,CT, and NY) and up and over to Brace Mountain NY. Back tracked to return - 3 hour return trip with the last 30 minutes done in the dark without a headlamp. I really enjoy the hike and only saw two other hikers who were heading down just before I reached the CT highpoint.

Be prepared to scramble!
Google maps took me to the CT/MA border where I parked in a small lot off of Mt. Washington Rd by the RED trail trailhead. I was completely expecting this to be a 30 min thing tops (took me 2.5 hrs in the snow). The trail shoots up out of nowhere and got interesting real quick. Topped out over Round mtn and then up Frissell itself. The HP is only about 200yds past the Frissell summit. If you find yourself starting to descend or even to the Tri Point, you've gone too far. HP #3 !

Not a walk in the park
I was expecting a walk in the park. It was brutally hot and humid. I had forgotten to bring my ball cap and ran out of water enroute. I parked in the easy to find trailhead. Then followed the well marked trail. I went to round mountain, then the highpoint of Mt Frissell, then the highpoint of CT, and then the tripoint marker, and then retraced my route. There is more hiking and climbing on rocks than you are led to believe. There is a fair bit of scrambling as well.

Timber Rattler on Mt Frissell Trail
Have climbed this multiple times - first time I've ever encountered a timer rattler on the trail itself. 3-4' adult on the Mt. Frissell trail at the first scramble. We came about 6 inches from stepping on it as it blended in with the leaves and logs.
Be mindful folks - while the trail is fun and easy you never know when something like this or a rogue thunderstorm might hit.
Mt Frissell, CT High Point, Tri State Marker, Brace Man
5.5 miles. Personal High Point #3. Good weather day.
Via Mt Frissel Trail. Also hit summit of Brace Mountain in NY

nice hike, easier than expected to find the parking
50 min up, 1:30 round trip. We were dripping sweaty by the time getting to the top.
Initially, reading driving directions I was concerned, but google maps app on phone took us right there. The two parkings are right across from each other at the trail head
Great day for a hike to celebrate the 4th of July. Sunny, dry and 85 degrees. Met a few hikers at the highpoint. Directions were great. There is now a sign for the Mt Frissel Trail near the state border post. Trail is mark very well in Red. There are some rock sections of the hike.

HP #5!
Short but steepish day hike. The summit of Frissell (on MA side) is completely forested, so you have to walk down a bit to get to the CT shoulder where the HP is, marked by a short turquoise metal pole. On the side of the mountain, you can see great views over rural CT.

Great fall day for a hike. As others have said, it's a bit more of a work out than you'd expect from such a small mountain, but that makes it fun. The register was not at the CT highpoint, but in the box at the summit of Mount Frissell when I visited.
