Short walk after Pacifico Mountain   Sucess!

The road is open at the moment - I took advantage of this, which resulted in a 1/2 mile walk from the road. Beautiful afternoon light and pleasant weather.

From Mill Creek Saddle.   Sucess!

The drive-up remains closed. Hiking from the saddle to the summit is 17.7 miles for the roundtripper. On the way stopped at CDCR Camp 16 to see the memorial. All buildings have now been demolished. Views from the Gleason summit were hazy but still good.

Spent 3 days on the summit counting burned and live trees. Sad to see this place changed so much.

Via PCT  Sucess!

Parked near the prison and hiked up the PCT to Gleason. Continued on the road to Messenger Flats and then Messenger Peak. Very cold brisk wind blowing but it made the views magnificent, especially towards those far ranges to the west. There was intermittent hard snow on the PCT but passable with trail runners.

Nice hike via PCT  Sucess!

Hooked up the PCT and followed it to the top, then took the ridge and road down. Nice alternative to driving to the gate.

Here is my GPS Track, elevation profile and Google Map of the hike

Seriously, bring Granny with a walker and an oxygen tank she'll make it. Did it, since I was hiking Condor and Iron #2 from Messenger Flats.

First time  Sucess!

First time up, did Messenger Peak and Gleason. Really loved the cedars on the summit of Gleason. Really amazing views of the western transverse ranges. A fun day spent chasing easy HPS peaks, also went to Barley and Little Rabbit.
