South Ridge  Sucess!

Day trip from Onion Valley via Kearsarge Pass. Snow on the ground but trail in good shape up to Kearsarge. Took the south ridge. Tropical-storm-force winds blew in from the west. Good snow pack for step kicking. Definitely required an ice axe with the wind and steep angles. Final summit block was a fun class 3 but pretty gnarly with the 50mph wind. Gorgeous day!

CLMRG Mountaineering 101  Sucess!

Took this as part of the class in conjunction with Dragon Peak. The traverse was surprisingly simple if you find the right way. It was mucky by the time we got there so I have no idea what the views are like.

Gould from Kearsarge Pass  Sucess!

Great excursion from Kearsarge. Steady climb and then a fun scramble up the summit block. Unfortunately clouds arrived at the summit at the same time.

Kings canyon backcountry

Beautiful day after a week of monsoon. First time climbing class 2 this steep and long, from Kearsarge pass. Didn't do the class 3 summit block.

Found my way up here without knowing what the peak was called. Was pleased to find a register. The summit block itself is a fun little challenge.

Gould Digging  Sucess!

I like Mt. Gould - an easy 13er with a fun summit block and a time-saving scree descent. I have climbed it seven times between 2007 and 2014.

From Kearsarge Pass  Sucess!

Went back to Gould almost exactly 5 years later. Not much effect from the altitude this time; interesting how the body adapts over the years. Anyway, hiked from Kearsarge Pass. Still some decent snow to the pass and clear to the summit (two small snow fields that can be avoided). A little warm on the way up but otherwise a great hike! Didn't see anyone beyond the pass.

First summit - Aug 12, 2006.
Climbed with Allen (see below) as a dayhike from Huntington Beach. Woke up at 3:30am and got back home around 1am. A long but fun day! I tend to get affected by altitude fairly easily and wondered if I would be able to make it from sea-level to 13k feet in a day. I noticed the altitude right at the trailhead. I tried to keep up the pressure breathing and only got a severe headache right near the summit.
Well acclimatized, it definitely would've been easier but it was nonetheless very enjoyable. Awesome scenery and views!
