Good pix. I enjoyed this hike when I did it. Up from Zealand to Hale and down the other side. One of these was the Lend a Hand trail Good memories. Looked for pictures of the forest of minature birches but that can be added by others.

I don't remember seeing miniature birches, but maybe they didn't look like much under the snow, or maybe they're on the Hale Brook trail which I didn't visit except for the top few feet.

Thanks for the vote.

Well put together page, I like the section on the origin of the name. However from your description this seems like a boring hike.

Thanks for your vote. It's not exactly an exciting hike, but it is a pleasant stroll. I did it as a rest day after having been up past midnight wandering around with a heavy pack.

Nice peak. 38th, it may be, but it has a lot of vertical relief for an eastern mountain.

Nice post!

thanks. I merely was there to record it on a sunny, snowy day.

Very nice! I enjoyed the additional history and geography lessons. It's great to see the recent NH activity on SP. I climbed Hale back in '98 as a recuperation hike after travelling to Africa and it was a nice, peaceful climb. I didn't realize the loop was all of nine miles! Didn't seem that long I'll add a photo once I get a better version scanned in.

Thanks for the vote. I missed your side trail due to snow, but I'm guessing it was near my lunch spot - look closely at the signature photo and you can see a glimpse of Mount Lowell.

Very good and informative page. The mountain might be 38th but the page ranks higher ;-)
