Parked at Islip Saddle and hiked to Dawson Saddle. First, went up the 1/2 mile ridge to Mt. Lewis. Then crossed the highway and picked up the ridge trail to Throop Peak. Next was Mt. Hawkins. From there, we dropped down Hawkins' ridge 1300' to Copter Ridge and summited the peak located at 7,499' elevation. Then traversed (not recommended; way too steep) to a saddle just north of Middle Hawkins and summited that peak. Started back on the trail toward Islip Saddle and summited Islip Peak along the way. The day was a little warm but the views were great on all the peaks.

Quite a Few

4 Hawkins Peaks
Hiked all 4 Hawkins peaks with Becht and Scott. Beautiful day, great hikes, lots of snow on the north slopes. Would have summited Islip with Tom, but wimped out:)

From Islip Saddle included South Hawkins, Sadie Hawkins, Middle Hawkins, and Mt Hawkins -- Mt Islip as a bonus peak. Perfect day -- lots of snow on the north facing trails.

Route Climbed: Vincent Gap up Baden Powell trail then west on the PCT
Started the day at Vincent Gap following the Baden-Powell trail until just below the summit veered west on the PCT and followed it until I reached Mt. Hawkins. Bagged Throop, Burnham and Baden-Powell on the return. A bit hazy so views were o.k. This far west on PCT only encoutered a couple of trailrunners training for this September's 100 mile endurance run

Climbed from Mile Marker 61.3
Road closed 2.8 miles before Islip Saddle. This added over 5 miles to the round trip, which totaled about 16-17 miles, since I hiked Throop peak as well. Got caught in a squall line, lightning was striking the ridge. I was pretty scared and started running down the mountain. Happily, I'm alive ;)
Signed the summit log up there and encountered 4 thru hikers on the PCT.
Parked at Islip Saddle, walked on ACH to the Caltrans garage, then up the ridge trail to Throop Peak. Finished on PCT, with Hawkins and Islip on the way.
Done this lots of time on the way to South Mount Hawkins - when the fire lookout was there.

Walking in Fink's path!
Climbed up from Islip Saddle because of Highway closure. Standard trail route to summit then took SW ridge back down to the junction with Middle Hawkins, another great view peak. A very beautiufl area that is recovering from fire damage.

Pleasant detour from PCT
Tagged the summit on the way to Baden-Powell with my wife. Nice peak, but the air was pretty hazy, so not much to see. Easy to see the potential, though, if you caught it after a rain.
Route Climbed: PCT from Islip Saddle Date Climbed: December 17th, 2005.
Great day for hiking! There was some snow and ice on the trail but still safe to pass without crampons. It was a very unusual day with thick clouds, which made it a very unique experience for that area. Temperatures were around freezing; very little snow for this time of the year.
