Beautiful area and trail
Used the standard route with Valerie to get Herard and Medano from the Medano Lake TH. Saw a bear in the morning, while it was running away from us.

From the Dunes
Climbed this from the Dunes with a good group of friends. Sand, to forested bushwack, to talus, to snow, all within a couple miles! The main coulior on the South Face makes for a mellow and scenic snow climb. Crazy views, one of my favorite areas in CO!

from Medano Pass Rd.
Combined with UN 12883, 12995, and Herard. Road was closed 3 miles from TH due to fire, which made for longer day.
Climbed with chicagotransplant. Another great day in the Sangres! The road to Medano Pass from the east is steep but fairly easy except for one very rocky section. The water hole on the spur road to Medano Lake TH (described on this page) was indeed very deep - deeper than it looked. Be careful!

4 Peak Loop
Climbed with Sarah, Dominic and Pete as part of a 4 peak loop. Started at the Medano Lake TH, then went up a side drainage to PT 12883, over "Medano Peak", then Herard and finished by going over PT 12925 and descending back to the trail about 20 yards from one of the creek crossings.
Route Climbed: Triple Crown Date Climbed: June 25, 2005
Erin and I climbed Medano Peak, Mount Herard, and UN 12,925 in a nice loop via Medano Creek. Highly recommended if you don't mind a bushwhack off of 12,925!

Route Climbed: Medano Lake trailhead
Great day for a hike. Nice approach to the lake with some of the larger Aspens I have seen along the way. Great views of the Dunes, Blanca area and the Crestone Group.
