Big fun
Hiked with my wife. One of the best half day hikes in Yosemite. Beautiful lake, fun scramble at the end. Amazing views.

Not my cup of tea
I though the cairns were hard to find, and I wasn't expecting the Class 2 scramble at the top. Uniformed and inexperienced I guess, not the mountain's fault. Just not a very interesting or rewarding hike IMO.

Mt Hoffman
Third time up to the top. I was taking cellphone signal strength data every ten feet with an android app that I wrote and plan to release soon. It shows my route every ten feet as red, yellow, and green dots indicating ability to make a cellphone call.
From May Lake near thr end of a 15-day backpacking trip
Did this one with Michael Eschenberg. A backcountry ranger suggested this peak to us when we shared our hiking route plans with him. It was a good one.

What a trip...
Made the climb on the last day of July in the middle of a heat wave with almost nobody else on the summit trail (I only saw one group of two on the slopes, long after I'd already come down) - a miracle made possible by the park's Covid-related entry restrictions. The views of northern Yosemite and points beyond were beyond compare -- those to the south were dulled by haze and the angle of the sun. Looking down the precipice at Lake 9820 was a thrill I won't soon forget...
Mt.Hoffmann Hike @ Yosemite on 06/20. Started hiking from May Lake Trailhead @ 9 40 am. Reached Mt.Hoffmann peak around by 12 15 pm in under 2hr 30 minutes. Temperature is around 70 and no wind. The Yosemite NP views from Hoffman peak simply spectacular and amazing! You need to scale and feel the beauty at 10875 feet elevation!
The trail to May Lake is neatly marked but from May Lake to Mt.Hoffman 50% of trail is we could figure out rest we need to follow the Cairnes on the trail. Last .75 miles pretty intense and we need to use hands to climb up big boulders. On the trail there are lots of lose rocks. scramble, big boulders, gravel and climb using hands as well. It is a short hike of 4.2 miles oneway from trailhead. The views from Mt.Hoffman is amazing and considered as Geographical center of Yosemite National Park.

Day hike
A day trip from the bay to get a little fresh air. Nice hike, but the highlight of the day may have been the sandwich at Ferrarese's in Oakdale

Quick and fun scramble
A decent amount of snow still left along the banks of May Lake. Ascended via SE chute to summit meadow, then straight up to ugly antenna summit. More fun scrambling along the ridge towards Hoffman's Thumb.

Morning hike
Was driving to Mammoth for a weekend of peakbagging, decided to do Hoffman in the morning and North Peak in the afternoon to help acclimate for the weekend fun. Hoffman was crowded and is class 1. Incredible views though! Trip report is HERE.

Rematch
Much easier with an experienced teammate/leader who knew what we're doing. Did the less-traveled NE ridge (?) route. Tried some Class 4 stuff but I had to bail and move over to the left for an easier route.
braindancer - Jul 7, 2014 11:25 pm Date Climbed: Oct 27, 2012
Standard route
Went too late in the season, there was a ton of snow slush that slowed us down quite a bit. Got to May lake and a little bit past it, then got confused and ran out of time.
