We had a pleasant short hike and then were chased off of the peak by rain, hail and lightning.

Beautiful Views
Climbed from valley floor up North dome gully. Washington column, Indian Rock, camped on Mt Watkins. Then up Hoffmann Sunday, and out.
Tioga road not open yet, so had it all to myself.

Short hike that seemed longer
This hike was short in terms of distance, but went slowly because of the occasionally faint trail and frequent rock-hopping. Needed to use hands for the last 20 feet.

Quick afternoon climb
2 1/2 hours after leaving the apartment I was standing on top! Now that's what I call a quick one - was surprised at how quickly the summit arrived. Did both the shorter one above the lake then the true summit with the antennae.

A grand day out
Returned to climb Hoffman again, after realizing we'd climbed "Hoffman's Toe" (my term for the subsidiary summit above May Lake) two years ago. Had a great climb with spectacular views in all directions.
Needed an easy peak to hike up with my brother, who is not in peak bagging shape. Great views of the entire park from the top. A new register had been placed the previous day.
Went to the secondary summit first then up to the top. Gorgeous day, amazing views, tons of marmots (watch out for scat in your holds!). We were amused by the number of people in the parking lot who thought the little, scummy pond there was May Lake. We pointed them to the trailhead but most got in their cars and drove away. One lady asked, "Is there anything else to see here?" Since I hadn't been up yet, I didn't tell her about the incredible view up top.

Welcome to Tuolumne
We scrambled up some unknown route(s) up Hoffmann on our first day in Tuolumne this year. Great place and absolutely incredible views. Mostly 2nd class with a few class 3-4 moves along the way. Our original plan was to follow the ridge line to Tuolumne Peak but a combination of gathering clouds and our laziness made us stop on the summit plateau and take a great nap! :)
Enjoy the pet marmot on the summit!

Route: South Slope via May Lake, Date: 05.19.07
Stopped 100 ft short of the summit due to a very late start... too much slipping & sliding to finish in the dark. Road to May Lakes TH was still closed, which added 4ish miles RT. Still lots of snow... melting snow over rocks in a few steep areas felt much like hiking up a greased pig, but with a bit less squealing.

South face with a whoops
Well, the tuft of rock looked good from the May Lake trailhead, and the 3rd class was the most fun of the hike. We topped out on it, then saw the antenna of Hoffmann across the short plateau. Oopsie. 20 min. later we were at the summit.

Very enjoyable, easy hike to summit(for the 12yr old child i was)My parents made the summit as well but a good half hour after i did and very exhausted. Views at the summit are amazing looking over the north face. AFter the descent in blazing heat i went for a short swim in May lake.

.Little snowy after May Lake, there is a "sharp" left that we missed ... but very accessible peak. Great views and blue ice in the northside valley.
