Mount Ida  Sucess!

I climbed Mount Ida alone. It was cold and windy, but clear. I regretted not bringing gloves.

First Mount Ida Hike  Sucess!

Tough hike. A lot harder than other reviews claim. The first third and last third are steep, and that last third is difficult with almost 4 miles already behind you. But the middle third is relatively flat and easy to navigate. Pretty rocky once above the tree-line. Be ready with good shoes.

Overall, though, it was very much worth it. Breathtaking views that you just can’t get from driving Trail Ridge Road. Incredibly rewarding.

Ida to Julian   Sucess!

was shooting for the Ida to Julian traverse but clouds made me turn around about half way to Julian from ida. made it to a cool spot above highest lake though and the mountain above highest lake was really fun. saw many people on the summit of Ida but i was alone past that.

First Summit on a Beautiful Friday Morniing  Sucess!

Started at about 5am this morning and didn't see anyone on the ascent up. Beautiful views but VERY chilly. I had to break out the rain jacket for some extra protection from the heavy buffeting from the wind. Amazing views from the top, then bombed down and saw 3 huge elk on the trail about .25 miles from the trailhead. Clear skies. Perfect day.

Perfect day  Sucess!

Quick trip for labor day weekend. Estes park and RMNP is such a great area. Ida has panoramic views all the way up from above tree line. Very moderate trek up, lots of flat areas. Nice exposure and drops from the summit, plenty of seats for comfy relaxation and great views.

Ridge Run  Sucess!

Started at Timber Lake TH, hiked to the valley separating Jackstraw and Ida and bushwhacked to treeline, then traversed Ida, Chief Cheley, PT 12820 and Cractop to Julian. Lots of scrambling and interlocking grass ledges from Cractop to Julian, fun stuff! Also climbed Jackstraw and Gray Jay on the way down, long day! Lots of wildlife: elk, deer, moose and bighorn all present today!

FOG!!!  Sucess!

Incredible fog with visibility of only a dozen or so meters helped me to veer off onto the eastern spur. This made for a long day of bushwacking across the feeders for the Big Thompson and back up to the Mt. Ida Trail.....ouch! Lots of wildlife down there though, bull moose, bull elks with huge racks, a few groups of bighorn sheep rams, ptarmigans, and all the other tundra buddies.

Milner Pass  Sucess!

8/14/16 With Cheely and Cracktop

7/24/16 We were headed for the trifecta(Ida, Cheeley, Cracktop). Clouds rolled in fast after descending to the Ida/Cheeley saddle. It was hard to turn around. Good judgement prevailed over ego.

August 17, 2011 Milner Pass to Arrowhead Lake and back up to Ida's summit.

Beautiful Day  Sucess!

Did the cirque from Ida to Terra Tomah. Windy, but beautiful September day. I would do this again just for the solitude.

Fantastic Hike!  Sucess!

Wonderful hike with incredible views. Tundra access is quick, flowers are beautiful, and wildlife (Elk, Bighorn Sheep, Marmots, Pikas, Ptarmigans) was plentiful. Take heed of the summer storms and begin descents as soon as the dark clouds appear over the Never Summer Range.
