North Couloir Ski
Did some snow climbing, skinning, hiking and scrambling to Lamarck's summit then skied the North Couloir. Loved it!

Back In Action!!
After three climbs in five years, this summit "Lamarcked" my return to the mountains. After so much time off, I used this as a reintroduction trip to get my legs, gear and mind back into the swing of things. I took the standard route up to Lamarck Col and camped on the plateau after climbing all of the summit pinnacles. I relearned a lot of lessons that prepared me for the season to come. Such a beautiful area and the views of Darwin carried me into the following week's return to the area.

Backpack
Day 4, we packed up in Darwin Canyon and headed back up the col. Once at the top, we dropped our stuff and headed over to Lamarck and Lamarck North. This was surprisingly some of the best climbing of the trip. I suppose you could keep it class two if you dropped down and forced it. We chose to stay on the ridge and looked for more challenging class 3 whenever possible!

Fun late-season scramble with great views
We had planned to go over Lamarck Col but were turned away by the last snowfield, which looked like it needed an ice ax and crampons. Scrambled up Mt. Lamarck as a consolation prize. Class 2 with a few class 3 moves on the route we took up the SE face. Lovely views of the snow-dusted Sierra, the Lamarck lakes, no wildfire smoke!

A short hike became a long hike
Started at 4:45 from the parking lot. From all the pictures on summit post, I had the wrong idea which was Mount Lamarck. Once at the moraine, I decided not to cross it but rather climb the class three at my left. That took me to the ridge. I followed the ridge and continued to the mountain. I climbed the mountain shown in pictures, on snow and ice, just to realize that Lamarck was the bigger mountain to the North. I eventually got to the top of Lamarck. Going down I wanted to take the full of snow slope, but somehow I bypassed it. I took a chute down and crossed the dreaded moraine. Be aware, millions of mosquitoes around the lakes. Because of hiking the no name peaks to the South, a half day hike took me 10 hours to complete.

Lamarck, and two others
Greg G and I climbed Lamarck, then Lamarck Northwest and the south summit as well. The next day we hit 13,172' and peak 12,978 before heading back down to North Lake.
From North Lake trailhead. Route: North Lake TH -> Mt Lamarck via SE slope -> Darwin Canyon -> Mt Goethe -> Alpine Col -> Muriel Lake -> Piute Pass -> North Lake TH, 19.2 miles round trip with 7,200 ft gain.

From the col
From North Lakes up to the Lamarck Col, I went over the col and dropped maybe 100 feet to easier ground before traversing to the SW slope of Lamarck an N Lamarck. On descent I traversed the ridge almost back to the col, exiting down the SE face when the scree looked manageable. This was much faster and would have been a better ascent route too.
There is a way to make this fun by staying on the ridge from Lamarck Col. The view from the top is outstanding. Trip report

Up & Back Southeast Ridge
Day hike from North Lake to summit and other unnamed peak above Darwin Canyon. Spectacular views of Mount Darwin, Mount Mendel and Darwin Canyon, just to name a few.

Up col, down SE slope
My final peak of a two week trip. Took the col route up since I wasn't sure about the SE face, but met another climber near the summit who gave me beta for the descent. Ended up saving me about 30 minutes. Super great hike with views to kill for.
Long day hike from North Lake TH, over Lamarck Col, down Darwin Canyon to Darwin Bench, most of the way back up canyon, x-country up to Lamarck ridge, tagged several high points, finally tagged (the lower) official Mount Lamarck summit, then scrambled down the southeast ridge boulders and hiked back out to the TH.
From North Lake via Lamarck Lakes trail, then over Lamarck Col and up the southwest slopes. Solo from 11,900 ft to summit.

Day Hike from North Lake
Great day hike from North Lake campground. Took the southeast face route up and down (scrambling while ascending en snow sliding on our descent). I really liked the view towards Darwin and Mendel. There are always more new summits when you did one... Guess the peak bagging never ends (fortunatly :)).

From North Lake
After the amazing 2010-2011 snow year, still a good amount of snow in the area in mid-September. Long day for us from North Lake, but very nice views indeed. Mt. Darwin is a monster!
