Old Army - 5th anniversary hike  Sucess!

Hiked in on Saturday and camped at Lake 4. Very peaceful night; not a breeze! Unfortunately, I only slept 2-3 hours. Took off at 7:15am and made the summit about 4 hours later. Had the whole mountain to ourselves; most people only started hours later. Fun mountain! Felt good all day; trail out with our packs I was kinda dragging though. Oh yeah, it was our (Chrissy and I) 5th anniversary; so that was kinda fun :)

3rd times a charm  Sucess!

Took 3 tries, but I finally got it. An easy 14'er but not when you are an idiot like I was back then.

1st Sucessful 14er  Sucess!

Third 14er attempt was the charm for me. Long but easy hike to summit via NAP.

New Army Pass Summit  Sucess!

Camped at Long Lake and hiked up to the summit the next day. Weather was perfect, but it was windy and cold at the top. Only two other people at the summit.

A little face time  Sucess!

Not wanting to slog up the sandy side, we opted for the east face scramble. Bouldering and chutes on this route offered a little challenge, but not to dangerous for the father of a young family in our group. Great views Easy walk.

Ah, Chute  Sucess!

Overnight: Made it up Tuttle Crk to the avalanche chute. Followed the chute to the east ridge. Camped at 12,000'. Climbed to the summit the next morning. Returned the same way.

Unseasonably warm.

long Day on the East Ridge  Sucess!

Our day didn't start too well when we parked about 1.5 miles below the trailhead. To avoid our mistake I'd highly recommend taking Granite View drive to the trailhead rather than the road at the end of Tuttle Creek campground. Once we got to the trailhead we followed the trail to where it crosses a bridge over the creek. From there we turned left and scrambled a thousand vertical feet up some sand, snow and rock to gain the ridge. Once on the ridge we climbed over thousands of feet of really deep sun cups. After about 8 hours of clmbing we topped out to great views of Whitney and Lone Pine Peak. We descended the huge NE Couilor instead of the East Ridge and made it back to the car 12.5 hours after our start.

Long, Long day  Sucess!

Had no permit, so we did it as a long day hike. It took 13hrs and almost got struck by lightning on the summit. If you hear a wizzing noise when you hold up your arms, get down quick!!!

Shred the NE Couloir  Sucess!

Overnight trip with CMC, good times and great weather. Snow in the couloir was perfect for descent at ~9:45, but I opted to summit and descended at 11 in wet conditions. The turns were still worth it, even in slush.

Run the high country  Sucess!

First time we ran most of this, but had to take my climbing partner to the airport. Second time, found out how far we really were from the summit.
