5 Peak Loop  Sucess!

From Cobb Estate TH: hit Echo Mtn, Muir Pk, Inspiration Pk, Mt Markham and Mt Lowe. Hiked with Gordon, Coco the Dog, and Sophie the Dog on a very hot April day. Up Castle Canyon/East Lowe trails and down the Mt Lowe railline/West Lowe trails.

up east trail and down the west - nice loop  Sucess!

I hiked up from Lake Ave to tag Muir, Inspiration and Mount Lowe, however it now looks like I climbed the wrong peak for Muir, I climed peak 4668 ft not peak 4688 ft. duh! I recommend taking a different trail down Mnt. Lowe, they both lead out near the same location.

Here is my route and some other stuff:

My Wife's First Real Peak  Sucess!

I didn't think much of hiking Mt. Lowe when we decided to try the trail from Eaton Saddle, but it looked like it would be doable for my wife whose knees make steep climbs very painful. Once we got up into the San Gabriels, though, our excitement built, and to make the summit was a great thrill (Oh, you know, a thrill that you only really recognize after it has gone). Anyway, this is a fantastic introduction to the front range and we've climbed quite a few additional times since this fall. Most recently we took our visiting family after the holiday, who appreciated some verticality, since all they know is the horizontal back in the glacier-flattened Midwest.

Good Times  Sucess!

Did Gabriel and Lowe this unknown day. Saw a bunch of boy scouts at the top. I was secretly giving them the answers to what mountains they were looking at. They were being tested by their "elders" on how to use a compass and basic navigation. I'm such a dick.

A viewless summit  Sucess!

It was a very foggy day, took the "viewing tubes" photo this day, had camped at Mt. Lowe Campground and hiked all around. Have done it many times, my favorite trail is the Castle Canyon Trail from Echo Mountain.

Peak 5  Sucess!

My wife and I (with our dog - badger) hit Mt. Lowe, San Gabriel Peak and Mt. Dissappointment today. Great hike from Eaton Saddle. The upper slopes were snow covered still, but you could hike with a light jacket. There were a couple of sketchy sections along the trail were the snow was really compacted and icy. Trekking poles helped. Great views...Baldy was all snowy.

This makes peak 5 of the sirrea clubs hundred peaks hikes for me this year...I need to pick up the pace to get 25 by the end of the year.

"Training" hike with the Sierra Club BMTC. It seemed like a long day at the time. But then, any trip with the Sierra Club will seem like a long day.

So long ago...  Sucess!

I honestly don't remember when we hiked to the top of this one. Some time early in my hiking and Boy Scout careers. Lots of fun and the camp site didn't have any flowing water so two of the dads hiked back out and brought water all the way back in to the camp site for the group.
