first summit of a traverse
Started at 835 AM and made it to the top via Valley and Watson Path by 11 AM. Felt like it took me too long compared to previous trips up Adams in similar weather but the whole traverse only took me thirteen hours so maybe it was just me being anxious.

presi traverse dayhike
Part of a north-to-south presi traverse dayhike, Madison to Webster. Great conditions until just before the Mizpah hut, at which point there was some lightning and hail.

Nice Intro to the Whites
Camped by Rt. 16 at a Campground. I started the hike at 5:00AM with hopes of completing a partial traverse from Madison to Washington. I made it Mount Clay before my knees started giving out (did not expect so many boulders!!!). Came down the Sphinx Trail and linked up with the Lower Great Divide Trail (?) to get back to the campsite. It was a long, fun day! Can't wait to get in better shape and try it agian soon.

Climbed it via different routes, in all different seasons (including, of course, as the first peak in a Southbound Presi Traverse), but I've never had a day when I've climbed only Madison.

Back again a year later
This time, with no dog. I made it to the summit, down to the Madison hut, and then on to Mt Adams. I took the Parapet trail back after meeting a very pretty girl from New York at Star Lake who needed directions for the same trail I planned on using. Who was I to say no to having a pretty girl as a hiking buddy back down to the trailhead?
Great weather, no fog, hardly much wind, tons of little vampiric blood sucking black fruit flies, and a pretty girl for conversation down the mountain.
One great day!

Beautiful winter day
Climbed Madison via Valley Way from the Appalachia trailhead. Weather was a bit chilly but skies were crystal clear, not a cloud in sight!

Mt.Madison
This was part of the Presidential traverse we did on that day.The climb up was very tough. We started at 3am and had to hike over much blowdown before reaching the treeline. This was amazing for me because this was my first trip to the Whites. The veiw from the summit was breathtaking.Imagine looking arcross the great gulf above all clouds over to the first veiw of the mighty Mt.Washington.It didn't take much for me to fall in love with these mountains. This is where it all began....Jim W
