My girlfriend and I drove up from CT to do this. We went up the Long Trail, which took a bit to find. It was much harder than I thought, and I wasn't sure if my girlfriend could make it up the last .3 miles, but she did, and I was so proud of her. The view from the top was gorgeous. Absolutely breathtaking. You could see for miles. Definitely one of the more rewarding highpoints I've done.

Fun hike
Decided to take Maple Ridge up to the forehead and follow the ridge to the summit and then down Sunset Ridge.
Maple Ridge was steep but not particularly difficult though there were some fun spots.
Ran into crowds at the visitor center but most stopped at the "lip" to enjoy the views.
Saw the cutoff for the "Subway" on the way to the summit. That was a fun diversion. Definitely take that if you've got the time.
Summit was real windy but not too crowded.
Headed back down Sunset Ridge to the ranger station. 7 hour total trip time. Appreciated the clean facilities at the ranger station to clean up.
Went into Burlington to view Lake Champlain with the Adirondacks as a backdrop. Made for a cool sunset.

Hiking the Face
We climbed the Long Trail up and traversed the Adam's Apple, Chin (Vermont State Highpoint), Lower Lip and Upper Lip on a cool, semi-cloudy summer day.

Great day climb!
Drove from Plattsburgh, NY to Underhill. Geared up and took the Sunset Ridge trail to the Chin. Didn't know that hunters were in the area until I heard shots fired on the trail! This trail was a blast. Once above treeline, despite having no views due to snowfall, it becomes a nice little alpine climb. It reminded me off the Lions Head trail on Mount Washington under some snow, though way less steep. We were glad to have our crampons with us though, as there is a good amount of ice covered rock on the trail. Many of the other hikers we passed that day did not have any sort of traction and it made it very slow going for them. The summit ridge was a lot of fun, no views, but the gusts of wind made it pretty rugged up there.. had to throw my balaclava on because I couldnt feel my face.. Came back down the way we came up. Started at 8:45am and got back to the car around 1:30.

Did this one for the holiday. Pouring rain the entire time, which made the rocks pretty slippery. Got a few shiners on my legs from not being careful. Really fun hike though, despite being sopping wet the entire day.
Took my Momma! Her first summit, went along the ridgeline for some great views the entire way to the summit (good for her and her camera!) Got caught in some fog but had some really nice glimpses on the way back. Easy going hike, perfect for a quick morning meander before travelling on through New England to the coast!

Mansfield via Laura Cowles & Sunset Ridge
Hiked up Laura Cowles (a.k.a. the trail that should have switchbacks but doesn't), did a short hike down to Adam's apple via Long Trail (some fun scrambles there) and back down via Sunset Ridge. Nice views, but too many damn drive-ups on the summit.

Green Mountains, Swallowed in White
Sunset Ridge up and back.
Took 5 hours as I raced a Half-Ironman the day before in Minnesota, then flew in to BDL at 11 p.m. and drove the 4 hours to the trailhead.
I definitely took a few spills on rocks that were wet from earlier rains and condensation. There was not much to see from the summit as the fog was thick, and with the wind beating down, I did not stay long.
On the way back down Sunset, the clouds began to clear and the views of the beautiful Green Mountains opened up. I saw plenty of people on their way up after noon.

HP #5 Sunset Ridge Trail
We came in from Underhill State Park and went up the Sunset Ridge trail. The weather was perfect. At the summit we got to watch a few daring skiers ski down from the summit. The descent was extremely fast due to the sun warming up the snow so that we could literally "ski" down the trails in our shoes. It was an awesome experience.
