Almost Epic (For a Flatlander)  Sucess!

12 of the men from Christ Church Plano (TX) attempted to bag Massive (100% successful!) via Standard (East Slopes) Route. Beautiful weather on a fine mountain. The long 13.75 mi. route had me a bit nervous; but I had no trouble until about the last mile when knees, ankles and feet protested pretty strongly. The new boots will be returned to REI in hopes of finding a better fit. 22nd CO 14er.

Massive SW Slopes  Sucess!

Did Massive with 2 friends who had never hiked on anything over 10,000 feet. We ended up hitting the summit in 2:26 and took 1:34 to descent. Very nice trail. We had rain and hail on the way down at 11 AM.

Southwest Slopes  Sucess!

Steep climb after getting off the main trail, but I like the directness of it. Nice ridge walk above 14k.

Southwest Slopes  Sucess!

Beautiful day, great trail, lovely hike. Surprised by how few people are out here today! Lovely!!! Very cool to bump into "capitan Eric," the Mexican Viking, and his entourage!

SW Slopes  Sucess!

Still the scariest storm I've been in above treeline in my years of hiking. Great views though, especially of Deer Mountain across the way.

winter drudgery  Sucess!

climbed massive via its east ridge with mike. yesterday's pre-stopped trench gave way to horrid, fluffy trailbreaking all the way to treeline. we were beat there, but sucked it up and slugged our way to the summit. a great feeling!

Winter Fun  Sucess!

East Ridge from the Fish Hatchery trailhead with shanahan96. Route started out with some rebreaking of an old trail so the first 3 plus miles went quickly. The next two were slow going as we trenched to treeline in occasionally waist deep snow. Above treeline the route was mostly dry and we were able to persevere and reach the summit. It was a long day though, 13 hours for the 14 miles and 5000 vertical feet.

Will return with skiis  Sucess!

Nothing technical about this mountain but it's size. Great bowls in the back towards Mt. Oklahoma for skiing. Winter Class 1 access on the front. And an interesting end to end ridge option at some point.

Uncertain weather  Sucess!

Had a somewhat slower climb than expected due to snow from a storm that hit earlier in the week. Four hours and forty minutes from the parking lot trailhead and the clouds wreathing the top kept me from really knowing which of the summits was in fact the highest summit. Only met two other hikers, a father and son combo from Oregon and Washington. A lot of marmots above the treeline and the weather held off until I got back to my car after the three hour descent.

Perfect timing  Sucess!

Did the shortest south slopes route from the N. Halfmoon Creek TH and didn't start until 1:30 pm but this turned to our advantage as the morning saw bad foggy/rainy and snowy weather that turned most of the days hikers around but the afternoon treated us to much nicer and clearer weather.

Straight up!  Sucess!

Went up the South Slopes and it is a fantastic route. Don't let the short milage fool you, it's a steep climb and I'm sure many more people bail on this route compared to the main trail. Great weather besides a few claps of thunder as we were coming down just before noon. The summit was busy and probably had about 8 dogs on it too.

Long day  Sucess!

This one sucked, only because the 4 mile long hike back after re-entering the trees on the standard trail.

Southwest Slopes  Sucess!

Nice day for a quick hike, took 2:10 to summit. Nasty weather moved in after I got back into town.

Earns Its Name  Sucess!

I didn't see a soul all day. The route is better than the guide implied. Weather came in fast. I descended through hail, snow and rain.

Standard route on freakishly hot day  Sucess!

Some nuisance snowfields along the way but otherwise a great day. Shaved a mile off the descent by glissading a long section just before the saddle with S. Massive. Luckily the weather was freakishly hot so my ass dried off quickly!
