Not really worth it
Drove up the dirt road, but anything other than a real high-clearance vehicle won't make it. Even my Crosstrek had serious trouble - be warned! Some interesting flowers along the indistinct "trail," but deadfall and spiny overgrowth make it hard to follow in parts. Views were totally underwhelming.

Nice views and flowers
Successfully bagged this peak on my second try, after my first try failed last year when my car got stuck on the little dirt road. (Don't ask about my stupidity in this regard.) The area was still nice and green and the chaparral was in full bloom. Low effort for moderate reward.
Following this peak, I thought my way through the ceanothus to the top of the nearby Devil's Benchmark, which is a peak with greater than 300 feet of prominence, and thus a "real" peak, unlike Mount Mooney.

Via Road and Use Trail
Deadfall was annoying and views were decent. Despite the Station Fire devastation, there isn't much poodle-dog bush. Peak 3 of 4 including Josephine, Vetter & Barley Flats.
Took the dirt road to the use trail up to the top of the hill. Area is still scarred up from the fires, lots of burnt fallen trees litter this hill. The summit isn't very prominent so the view isn't that great. Not sure how this made the Sierra 100 peaks list...anyway watch out for new growth when heading up to summit, I noticed lots of young pine saplings.

From Charlton Flat via Service Road
One of the most unimpressive summits I can remember. Devastation from Station Fire and overgrown vegetation all around. Hardest part was driving the car to within a half mile of the summit. Also trying to figure out where the highpoint actually is. Views are ok to the west, where Wilson and friends are clearly visible. Otherwise, Mooney is nothing more than a sad little bump.

From dirt road
Thrashed around in the brush looking for the HP. Followed some old animal trail down the north ridge (or is that the HPS use trail?). Didn't think this one was too great.
