Hiked in with the boy scouts on a hot sweaty day. My biggest memory of the trip was sucking down a juice box of orange stuff at the top and getting a nasty head and stomach ache as a result.
Route Climbed: East Face Slide AI1 Date Climbed: January 2000
We had it in our minds to try to forge a line up the east face slide on east osceola. The slide climbs a plumb line from greeley pond to within 200 yards of the east peak summit. Well, snow and inadequete climbing equipment slowed us way way down. This is one of the most exhausting day trips I've been on. There was two water ice sections and we only had mountaineering axes and 10 point crampons making for some difficuly. The top out to the summit was only 200 yards of bushwhacking from the top of the slide, but the snow was bottomless. We had to hook our way up trees using the axes to make forward progress. We really fought for this summit. It took only about 45 minutes to get down back to the ponds since the trail is typically packed and easy to follow. In neve snow conditions, I would highly recommend this line for people looking for more difficulty then the standard hike up from greeley ponds.
