Perry ridge walk
From Dante's View. Trail was extremely easy to follow the entire way. Had a nice stretch of solitude where I encountered only four other hikers along the Mount Perry ridge. Much busier on the return trip over Dante's BM! Amazing views and a nice, firm breeze made for an enjoyable hike!

Climbed solo to start 2013. Fun hike and a pretty straight forward route. Maybe I should have done it Rory's way, though...

Trail from Dante's
Beautiful walk from Dante's. Perfect way to end a week of peak bagging in the desert. Only problem was the freshly PAINTED blazes on part of the trail. WTF? If you can't find your way on this route and need to PAINT the rocks you shouldn't be out here, period. If anything, build a freaking cairn. But you don't even need those - it's a ridge. With a trail. One way goes to the summit. The other goes back to the parking lot. Geesh. Reported to a not-so-pleased ranger who said they would have to scrub the paint off of about, oh, 200+ rocks with a wire brush. Awesome.

From Natural Bridge
I'm not exactly sure about the date. It was sometime in late February or early March. I was working at Furnace Creek from January to June and I decided I needed to do something epic before it got too hot. I parked my car at the Natural Bridge trail head at about 10 A.M. and started scrambling. The steep soft dirt slopes right at the beginning turned out to be the crux of the route (surprisingly exposed class 4). I spent most of the day meandering up the mountain and gained the ridge in the late afternoon well south of the Mount Perry summit. From there I followed the trail to the peak...Unfortunately, my plan to hitch back to Furnace Creek from Dante's View failed because I got there after dark and everyone had left. I ended up walking/jogging the road all the way to Highway 190, where I finally hitched a ride from two coworkers. An epic day. It was worth it.
