long day
The trail was only one day off from being closed for two months for calving season so I was glad to get it in while I could. The snow drifts above 10800 feet forced me to bushwhack the final mile or so via the southwest side. Five hours and twenty minutes up, slightly less than four hours down. I ate well at Madams in Eagle Nest that night.

Memorable peak, long ago
Estimated date. Climbed as part of a Boy Scout trip, and hit the summit on a Sunday morning. Gorgeous place to eat breakfast, just watch out for the mini-bears.

Busy, Busy, Busy
Climbed this peak with Comanche. Great summit. It was very busy at the time. It was cool seeing all the bandannas on the top. Only good type of trace to leave. The view at the top is great and it is cool seeing Baldy and Costilla way in the distance. Mountains we were on the top of a couple of weeks ago. We descended the brutal trail on the way to Clear Creek. Always fun seeing crews climbing up steep portions of trails while you are going down.:)

Sleet in June
Trek 609-A
Nice ascent in '04 with Troop 39 out of Georgia, had some nice sleet up above the "tree line", made for some good pictures with the storm rolling out.

From Commanche
Did some community service on the top by disassembling rock castles that some scouts made. Fun hike other than that.
An epic storm rolled in from the southwest just as we summited, one of the best lightening shows I've seen. We set up camp just as the hail came, and when the storm was over the ground was covered in quarter-sized hail.
Route Climbed: From the top camp... Date Climbed: July 1995
Hiked this with my Boy Scout Philmont crew from Troop 1100 in Burke, Virginia. Camped out near the summit of Mount Phillips and caught both a beautiful sunrise the next morning.
I remembered beinig really psyched to be on top of this peak. I'm not sure what route I took to get there, but I was on a 5 day trek called "Mountain Men" that included kids from different troops around the country. This was my first real introduction to backpacking (a little more out there than what we did back in Ohio) and I loved it. The great view from the top inspired me and the rest, as they say, is history.
