HP# 29. Slept in the car at the Elk Meadow parking area of the AT. Took 1 hour 50 minutes to summit the next morning via the AT. Returned on the horse trail, took an hour and a half. With time on the summit, no views, whole gig was 3 hours 55 mins.
Arrive Grayson Highlands State Park with some snow flurries. Layered up since the temperature was 33 degrees. Hike to Mt Rogers is along a mild section of the Appalachian trail . On way up met with alot of water on the trail. started snowing mid way up and met with ice on the trail on the way down The wild horses were all along the trail and fun to watch Long hike due to weather - well worth it.

Highpoint #13
Happy Cinco de Mayo! First of five in a highpoint and whiskey trail driving vacation. Slogged through the hike in rain and mud, but embraced the suck and happily checked off another highpoint.

Beautiful day in Grayson
Saw plenty of ponies, including a mother and new foal. Glad some kids had beat me to the high point, never would have seen the marker.

Ponies Ponies Everywhere!!
I camped in the Grayson Highlands and summited Mt. Rogers through two rainstorms along the Appalachian Trail. Even met Favio, the stallion of the heard, appropriately named for his unique loooooooong blond mane and tail. In total it was 13.1 miles round trip and 1,917' elevation gain.

Great relaxing hike, and the ponies were really neat to see. Summit completely covered in forest, but it's still pretty cool. I really enjoyed this highpoint.
Started at Grayson Highlands state park, great views on the trail but no view from the summit.

Great Hike
Great scenic hike! Nice family trek. Had the 1 year old backpacked and 3 year old walked most of the way with no issues, with creativity even Wilburn Ridge is no issues. Beautiful views along the way, see all different types of scenery.

Fog & rain
No views - no visibility. I don't remember the trail being so rocky and forested (except for spur trail) when we did it back in 1999
Mild & enjoyable hike, and lots of wild ponies on the trail to the Summit. A nice family hike and not too taxing for weekend warriors, still worth it indeed.
Totally socked-in day with rain off and on. Trail distances seemed off. First 2.5 miles were about 40 minutes total, but the last 2 miles took about 90 minutes. I think the final 2miles were closer to 3.5 miles but I didn't have a pedometer to back up my claim. Felt much longer than advertised and felt like the trail wrapped entirely around the mountain. Probably had something to do with weather conditions. Lowest part of the trail was definitely the most scenic.

Started off raining, low cloud cover and fog. Beautiful ponies and three deer jumping through sunlight. Green, green, green on the summit.
