Smokey but fun climb
Smoke filled the valleys and blocked most of the views but the climb was still fun. Think a lot of people underestimate this hike as climbers would say it's easy and strait forward but we saw about half of the groups turn around due to difficulty, exposure, and lack of experience with scrambling. There is loose and dangerous rock at the top and an long section of exposure with cliffs on both sides of the route. If you've climbed class 2-3 it shouldn't be anything difficult just a long uphill but if you aren't experienced be aware that the second half of the hike above treeline has these sections with no trail. Where there is a trail it's steep and eroded not like many of the other trailed peaks in the area.

Test climb
Evening trip. Wanted to test the dog for an overnight. He is not a good tent mate. 4.5 hours car - car with lots of time at summit, carryind dog down a few hundred ft of mid sized scree, set up tent, try to sleep, dog not enjoying it, pack up, down hike in dark and snow/rain. Been back for conditioning hikes, super fun after work trip. Super empty compared to Chinamens peak.
Climbed as part of the Canmore Triple Crown challenge. Got an inversion that day so I was Was able to look SE and see the Kananaskis range jutting out of a sea of white cloud (Ha Ling looks particularly imposing from this angle)

Scramble Route
Busy route! Hiked up with some friends from Calgary. Some fun scrambling up higher to gain the summit.

The weather is here!
Canmore is beautiful, and so was the hike. My lifelong friend Adam and his son flew out from DC to hike. Fun hike, the climb across the rock band and up to the summit was great. We saw numerous locals doing the 4 peak climb that they started at 5AM, Ha Ling, Lawrence Grassi, East Rundle and not sure of the 4th. They were almost in a jog!! Very impressive.
A super fun easy 11 pitch. Each pitch is around 25m and with three bolts. The hardest pitch is 5.5. Great views

Good first scramble
Tried it back in March, but was sick and couldn't finish. Went back on Canada Day. It's nice and close to Calgary and isn't as busy as Yam, so this is one of my favourite scrambles. I regularly take newbies here to introduce them to the sport.

Dayhiked this after Chinaman's. Standard use trail/scramble route.
The East End of Rundle is 'where the climbing is at'!
I recall there was a fantastic bolted route about 5.9 for 6 pitches or so. Raptor!
It is very recommendable! great views and good times with Robin!

Fresh Snow...
Took a guest up EEOR during some fresh snow. Avoid the traditional scramble route on slab (to the left) during these conditions and look for a chimney with a small roof on it that gives direct access to the east summit.

Very dry and warm weather for a few weeks made this winter outing feel like a day stolen from August, with the exception of the snow run back down! There were still about 8-10 people total on the mountain that day, showing it's popularity.
Route Climbed: Normal Scramble Date Climbed: August 13, 2005
Beautiful day, although a bit hazy. Scrambled with Doug and Greg. We saw goats and a really odd-looking marmot. Enjoyed scree runs coming down. Good warm up for our upcoming backpacking trip.

Sept 2004. Overcast and gross in Canmore, broke free of the cloud cover at approximately the treeline. Views were absolutely fantastic with cloud filled valleys and all of the surrounding mountains emerging from the low cloud layer. It was nice NOT to see Canmore's sprawl.
May 2005. Originally intended to bag Rimwall, but it was under a localized snowstorm. Headed back up the road and re-climbed EEOR. Had a nice cup of fresh coffe made from a summit cornice at the top.

I was struggling on the way up the hike but once we got to the skyline ridge I started to feel better. Most of the day was sunny with low clouds at times so couldn't see the town of canmore below. Good fun scrambling up to the first summit but the rock quality isn't great so be careful which hand/foot hold you use.
Route Climbed: East Rundle Date Climbed: June, 2004
I have really been saving Rundle for a full traverse, but this is a nice short one for novices or if
you just need exercise. Almost winter conditions in the middle of June at 8500' equals the
Canadian Rocky Mountains.
Took my dog for exercise (EEOR is out our back door) despite a thunder and hail storm. We
gained 2000' our first hour. Our visibility and therefore pictures were somewhat limited,
particularly on the summit. Kind of made a cool setting though. Park at Goat Creek and start
up for the road just north of the parking lot. There is a trail that peters out somewhat at the
top. We go lost, so scrambled straight up at the end. However, with decent visibility, you
should find your way to the right and gain the ridge for the final push to the summit.
Made a second trip in 2004 with Stacy and BJ. Much clearer day this outing, such a fast
scramble. When you go on a summer weekend, this is little more than following traffic. I
have a new altimeter and it appears the eastern summit is 1-10 feet higher than the western
summit. You should do both, so you can sleep at night.

Up and down in 2.5 hours. A very pleasent start to my 10 days in the Rockies this summer. My flight arrived at 1:00 pm in Calgary and I started this at 5:00 pm and was treated to some fine views especially south on one of the few days I was to get with sun. Cheers William
